Dr. Anita Bhushan, MD

May as well have prescribed me healing crystals and bird seed. Dismissed me due to my other health problems. Most unprofessional doctor I have ever come across.

I have read the previous reviews and while I have to say I agree with each one to some extent I also understand a few things about myself a little better. Dr. Bhushan does make you feel like you (the patient) has a certain obligation to take your health matters into your own hands ie take your meds as prescribed, try to get more rest, try to eat better, etc. While we all know how painful and stressful having any IBD illnesses are (for those of us who do) a doctor can only do so much. They are not Gods. They can not magically wave a wand and all is well. WE as patients have a responsibility to ourselves and that is to do what is recommended until you improve or move on to something else. Of course if you aren't happy with your provider you should go elsewhere. Dr. Bhushan is now working for the DoD at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Bhushan also gave me her email address and instructed me to contact her whenever I need to - see promptly responds. While… for me the jury is still out on whether I will look for another doc I do know that I will at least give her the benefit of the doubt. I think it must be very frustrating when a patient is not complying with the recommended instructions on how to better their health.

My first visit with Dr. Bhushan will be my last. I fall into an IBD gray area that defies diagnosis, and my quality of life is severely impacted. She was abrupt, rude, arrogant, and dismissive. She made it seem that I alone am responsible for my ill health, that if I simply meditate and do yoga, I'll magically be healed. While I do appreciate the alternative approach to medicine, I didn't care for her attitude. As much pain as I'm in, and how much I'm suffering isn't validated because, as she put it "so many people are worse off than you.". To walk a mile in someone else's shoes.... I also agree with the previous reviewer who said she treats you like a stupid child - I definitely sensed this. In my interactions with her, I was talked down to. She doesn't seem to be the type of doc who wants to build trusting relationships with her patients, but more like she's running an assembly line.

I saw Dr. Bhushan at Mercy earlier this year and I thought she was great and very informative before an after my colonoscopy. She took the time to explain in detail what was going on and why I was having the symptoms and then provided great follow up after my surgery with a plan for treating my symptoms. She kept me at ease throughout the entire process and colonoscopy surgery. I felt completly confident and educated on my issues after seeing her. Overall I had a great experience with Dr. Bhushan and would recommend her to close friends and family or anyone who is experiencing digestive issues.
