Summary
Dr. Ann J. Larsen received her undergraduate degree (with highest honors) from the State University of New York at Albany in 1976. She was then graduated first in her class from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dentistry (1982), after which she completed a two-year postdoctoral (Master of Science) specialty training program in Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1984). Dr. Larsen was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society.
Following her orthodontic specialty training, Dr. Larsen came to Texas to join the faculty at the School of Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for five years. In addition to her teaching duties, she served as Co-Director of the Dentofacial Deformities Clinic, as orthodontist on the Cleft Palate Team, and served on various committees including the Admissions Committee for the School of Dentistry and …the Executive Committee for the Women's Faculty Association. Her areas of research included craniofacial biology and postsurgical stability of orthognathic surgery. (Surgery to align one or both of the jaws.)Â
Dr. Larsen was responsible for the orthodontic treatment for the majority of the patients who underwent orthognathic surgery in the Dentofacial Deformities Clinic. Dr. Larsen has had several papers and abstracts published in the dental literature and has been a guest speaker at several conferences and continuing education courses.
Dr. Larsen is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Taking the extra step to be certified by the American Board of Orthodontics is a voluntary process. It requires an extensive three-phase examination over the course of many years. This includes both a written examination and evaluation of finished cases by a panel of nationally respected orthodontists. Dr. Larsen feels that this voluntary effort on her part greatly enhanced her education and ability to provide the utmost in patient care. Currently, Dr. Larsen is in the private practice of orthodontics, teaches part-time at the Dental School, and is committed to thorough state-of-the-art orthodontic care. She is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, and the American Association of Women Dentists. She is married to Dr. Todd Larsen, a psychologist in San Antonio. They have two daughters.
