Anna Derbaly-Basenese, PSYD

Anna Derbaly-Basenese, Psy.D., is a fellowship-trained rehabilitation and health psychologist specializing in helping individuals adjust to neurological conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, epilepsy, stroke, and functional neurological disorders. She provides individual and group psychotherapy, creating a safe space for patients to explore their thoughts and feelings while facilitating behavioral change.

Dr. Derbaly-Basenese utilizes evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for insomnia, motivational interviewing, and biofeedback training to help patients manage anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, and sleep difficulties related to their medical diagnoses. Her focus is on empowering patients to gain awareness, acceptance, and a strong sense of self as they navigate the challenges of their condition.

Dr. Derbaly-Basenese's research spans diverse topics, including …pediatric stroke, social support for stroke patients, neuropsychological impacts of urban violence, and the effects of postnatal valproic acid exposure. She has presented at national conferences, including the American Psychological Association (APA) and Association for Psychological Science (APS) conventions. An active member of the APA (Divisions 22, 38, and 40), she has held leadership roles, including Vice President of the Disability, Awareness, & Wellbeing Group.
