Dr. Anna Filova, MD

Dr Filova is very kind and professional. She patiently answered all of our questions. My husband and I really like her.

Dr. Filova is extremely supportive, empathetic, and professional. She has extensive knowledge of psychiatry, psychology, addiction, and medications. She is an additions specialist and treats co-occuring disorders. Dr. Filova was highly recommended, and I’ve been seeing her for about 4 yrs. Your regular appt will be more than the typical 15-min medical management session. Dr. Filova sees you for therapy and medication management. Our appts last for at least 20 minutes. (I’m usually the one to end it.) No annoying “our time’s up” either! Insurance Note: My insurance does not cover our sessions, and I am not sure which insurance does; however, if you have out-of-network benefits, you should be reimbursed for some or most. Her rates are reasonable.

When I started seeing Dr. Filova 4 months ago, I was in a bad place and just beginning to get help through weekly sessions of talk therapy with a licensed counselor on the other side of town. My therapist suggested I talk to Dr. Filova about managing my depression and anxiety. At our first visit, Dr. F asked me questions about my symptoms, my lifestyle, and my background to get a sense of the severity of my depression and the right treatment options. These questions were mostly straightforward but some were uncomfortable, as is to be expected from this kind of doctor's visit. She suggested an SSRI and addressed all of my questions and reservations patiently and honestly, and wrote the prescription once she was sure I was on board. After some directions about dosage, we scheduled a follow-up for two weeks later, but she asked me to call her immediately should I have any adverse reaction to the meds. Our follow-up went well, but after 8 weeks on the medication I was experiencing… a persistent side effect with no meaningful improvement in mood. Psychopharmacology isn't an exact science, and drugs affect each person differently but I was glad that when I mentioned the unwanted side effect to Dr. Filova, she listened and did not trivialize my concerns. We tried a new drug and it has so far been excellent in furthering my treatment with minimal side effects. And when I made some very irresponsible choices about my treatment, or when I forgot about one of our appointments, she was understanding and did not make me feel like a chastised kindergartner. All in all, I think it matters that prospective patients know what to expect from their visits to Dr. Filova. If you take your time and answer her questions as thoroughly and honestly as you can on your first visit, then she will be better equipped to offer effective treatment; if you understand that you are not walking into a therapy session where the questions are meant to dig deeper, then her questions will not strike you as superficial; if you are willing to accept that there may be some trial and error in your treatment, then she will gladly guide you through your options. I am very relieved to have found her, and that together we found something that could help me!
