Dr. Anna M. Varghese, MD

Dr. Varghese has been wonderful during my journey. She is always kind and patient and explains everything thoroughly.

Dr Varghese seems better suited for a non-patient interfacing role. She had a poor bedside manner and lacked empathy. I was under tremendous stress and grief as I received my cancer diagnosis and she seemed very poorly suited to deliver this news. I would repeatedly ask questions to try to come to grips with the situation and she would talk over me and tell me to stop talking and allow her to finish. There were more than three occasions where she cut me off and told me to let her finish before I could voice my concerns. She was rattling off drug suggestions for addressing my symptoms, but when I would interject to have her slow down or clarify she would tell me to stop and let her finish. It felt demeaning and insulting. While the news she delivered was very upsetting to hear, she did little to soften the blow. I left the consultation feeling more depressed and hopeless than ever before.

Did not have a good experience

Dr. Varghese is an amazing oncologist and helped my dad so much; I can't recommend her enough!

Dr Varghese was appointed as the doctor of my father. Unfortunately she was one of these doctors that assumes rather than base their comments on real data. She was pessimistic from day one saying that my dad won't be able to handle the treatment, although he was able to and she was proven wrong. She always showed pity and had sad facial expressions towards my father, she lacked empathy with the family of the patient and did not welcome any comments nor listen to the family's concerns and remarks. She went on a holidays leave which resulted in my father's treatment delay without consulting with her team on the proper course of action which led to the cancer spreading in my father's body. When she came back from her leave, she had her office call to reschedule our appointment although it was very important for us to meet her and understand where my father's treatment plan stands, and we refused to reschedule. She later on pushed our appointment to the last appointment in the day although… our appointment was at 1pm, she pushed us till 6pm. Disregarding the fact that my father is a cancer patient that had radiation earlier in the same day. It was also very hard to contact her, and she would call at a late hour in the day or even not call at all. I would never recommend her to anyone.

I won't recommend this doctor to anyone. My family member was assigned to her when admitted. I agree with the other comment that she does not show enough care towards her patients. More disturbing to me is that she does not appear competent in her field. If she was, she was not able to communicate or relate that to patients and care-givers. She did not treat the caregivers as a team to support the patient. She could not explain the options of treatments well. Her overall communication skills were poor.

She doesn’t care about patients, never call back, never see her for 6 months she was taking care of my husband, he started his her with stage 1 cancer 6 months ago now he will be hospice patient. Never ever don’t think to this doctor, pointless, waist of time and life . Very incompetent.

Dr. Varghese demonstrates excellent oncology and research protocol expertise, but couples it with a very compassionate and caring attitude towards her patients. She is an exemplary oncologist who also collaborated well with her colleagues.
