I was assigned Dr. Bhat when she was "new" to the clinic. New to the clinic doesn't mean new to patient interactions, but it sure felt like it. Having a medical background, I never had many questions, but when I did she never really answered or addressed them. When I disagreed with something or wanted to discuss other options and whatnot, she never listened to me. I felt as if she was not taking my concerns seriously. For example, I told her my hearing had changed in the right ear and I was hearing extra noises and rumbles which I was concerned about because I had a brain tumor on that side of the brain. She said "that's interesting/strange" and we never circled back to it. I had to go to my neurosurgeon and my PCP to eventually get a referral for audiology. I was diagnosed with very very minimal hearing loss as a result of otosclerosis. Completely benign and not a big deal, but we didn't KNOW that at the time and I would have appreciated it if she had addressed it. To me, she… should have understood that, even if it wasn't a concern to her, it was to me, thus should have been investigated further. I would have had a much much worse experience if I weren't already working in the medical field. Granted, she is a very nice person and knows her medical specialty well, but medicine is more than just science and diagnoses. It's people. People (especially patients) want to be heard. I never felt heard when she was my provider. Eventually I requested my neurosurgeon put in a new referral for a different provider.
