Dr. Anne Therese Christopher, MD

I have been a patient here for aprx 2 years. The dr and staff are very helpful and pleasant.

Anyone that is a care giver or a patient that struggles with chronic pain knows it is not easy to find new care. Every day is a struggle just to “survive” that day so when you do need to find a new doctor all you can hope for is to find a doctor that shows empathy and takes the time to understand your specific situation. If you are looking for this Dr. Anne Christopher is NOT the physician for you. My husband and I recently moved to the St. Louis area and was referred to Dr. Anne Christopher by his long term doctor in Chicago. We saw negative reviews posted online but decided to take a chance and see her, I regret this decision. While at the office for 1 hour 45 minutes Dr. Christopher spent less than 10 minutes with my husband. It was clear she had made some assumptions on his care and what was needed without really talking to us and asking questions. He was treated with disrespect and a level of unprofessional that is beyond anything I have seen during my husband’s pain… journey since 2011. Over the years we have seen over 30 doctors trying to find alternatives to treatment and look for solutions that work for his complex situation. Within minutes of Dr. Christopher being in the exam room it was clear she felt she was wasting her time. Her lack of empathy and ability/willingness to truly understand why we were there to see her and provide options was appalling. We came prepared with a full timeline, list of treatments, surgeries, test results and additional documents to have a collaborative discussion on what his treatment plan has been so we could come up with at future plan. She was not interested in discussing any of this. I try to live my life without wishing negativity to anyone – so all I can say is if Dr. Christopher ever finds herself in a situation needing medical assistance and support I hope she is lucky enough to find a doctor that can demonstrate empathy, compassion and a professionalism that she clearly does not have. If this review helps prevent even one person from having the same horrible experience with Dr. Christopher then the time and thought I have put into this review is worth it. I would like to note that everyone else within the practice, including the nurse and physician assistant was wonderful to work with and demonstrated all of the qualities Dr. Christopher is lacking.

Miracle worker is all I can say about Anne. I had spent 10 years and 7 surgeries trying to get rid of all the pain caused by a severe work injury. I was told by numerous Dr. there was nothing more that could be done. After every surgery I was in worse pain than before. I was one phone call away from having my foot amputated when we found Anne Christopher. All I had to do was call give the Dr. am Okay and he would have amputated my foot and ankle below the knee. We got a hold of Anne went to see her and she told me. I can fix you and she did a simulator implant OMG. I never again thought my foot would feel this GOOD. Thank You Anne and your staff.

Dr. Christopher is probably the worst doctor I've ever had. Each procedure she attempted to relieve my pain only made things worse. She totally botched the last procedure, leaving me in much more pain than I was in previously. In addition, she never followed up or even seemed to care. Furthermore, telephone calls were often not returned, and more often than not, when I had an appointment with Dr. Christopher, I never even saw her; I saw the nurse practitioner. She also likes to schedule as many visits as possible, taking 3 trips to do what my next doctor did in one. (Need I saw, I stopped seeing Dr. Christopher!)

Confirmed that I did indeed have complex regional pain syndrome, pretty much gave me the only option of having a spinal cord stimulator or she wouldn't provide any other treatment. Couldn't answer questions about concerns with the scs such as side effects, complications or if it had security risks like have been reported as a potential issue with pacemakers ( like being affected with malware or hacked). Only spouted out stats that made it look like that it was a godsend. Couldn't get her to give a price for how much it would be out of pocket as she wasnt listening and kept going on how insurance would cover it ( had to tell her 3 times I was uninsured). Overall it felt like she was a salesperson for the manufacturer of the scs and worked on commission. Overall lacked empathy and seemed egotistical and narcissistic. Wasted over $300 out of pocket to be told what I had already researched myself and left in more pain than I arrived in with nothing offered to relieve or help with the pain… ( save for a scs which would be around or in excess of $150,000 after doing some research). The only positive I can say is her PA was one of the best I have ever delt with. Same with the nurse or administrator who initially took the info

Dr. Christopher is a pleasant person with decent interviewing skills; she listens and smiles while discussing symptoms and concerns of the patient. But, she is nearly impossible to reach for follow-up. There are numerous mix-ups when staff involvement is needed; records are inaccurate and mistakes are very difficult to get corrected. Waiting times are incredibly long. Commitments are unfulfilled and/or lost. I am very disappointed after a promising first appointment.

She will NEVER be on time to any appointments. I would not recommend scheduling an appointment before ten in the morning. Even if patients have appointments at eight or nine in the morning, she will not walk in the office until after ten. If you have an early appointment, expect to wait at least an hour before being seen. She is ALWAYS running behind. Of course if you do not go into the office on time, all your appointment will be pushed back. Most patients will wait an average of one to two hours to see the physician. Since she is running behind, you will not get a quality visit. She will be in a rush. She will not be listening to your complaints but just created a quick plan of care, probably including more and more injections. Be prepared to keep coming back for more. She will only allow one complaint to be discussed per visit. She will also not refill a medication and give an injection in one visit. Before booking an injection, you have to come in for an evaluation. I would… see the patient week after week, paying a copay for each visit. The physician will state it is because of billing, but I do not believe that is one hundred percent true.

Dr. Christopher is wonderful, she is excellent at what she does, however the office visits are ridiculously long. The last 2 appointments lasted 3+ hours, each. In that time I spent 10 minutes with Dr. Christopher, a few minutes with the nurse and about 30 minutes with a technician. Very few patients in the waiting room, not enough to justify this wait time.

Dr. Christopher is a good pain doctor but her office staff is impossible to reach. A week passed before they returned my call and Anthem called me because they couldn't get the office to return their call. I told Anthem to press 2 and pretend you're a doctor. It's the only way they answer the phone!
