Dr. Anne Louise Oaklander

Dr. Oaklander is a phenomenal MD and PhD. It isn't her fault that her availability is slim, and I am greatful I was able to be added to her patient list. Dr. Oaklander has been looking after my complex case, a case most neurologists have turned down. I would not have come as far as I have without her expertise.

Waited a long time for an appointment, and it ended up being not worth the wait. She did not offer any more than other physicians I've seen, and it's very difficult to get any follow up. She's more of a researcher than a clinician, and she is very full of herself.

This so called doctor could not diagnose a disease if the disease had a name tag

After 10yrs of horrific MD treatments, Dr ALO correctly DX'ed my condition and its been better since.

Dr Oaklander's main focus seems to definitely be on her research, not her patients. i have only been able to get 2 appts with her in the past year as it takes a minimum of 6 months to get a 1st appointment, as well as any follow up appts with her. She says that if you need to see her sooner, you can be put on a cancellation list. But that does not get you in any sooner as I heard she only sees patients about one day a week. Had I known that , i would have made an appt with a different neurologist. I think that all her patients must be on her cancellation list, as it is very difficult having to wait 6 months when you have a progressive neurological disease with chronic pain. As of dec 2013 if you want to see her, you will now have close to a 1 year wait. And that is if you are an existing patient. I was told by her that if I went for autonomic nerve testing as well as nerve biopsies that if they came back positive, she would then be able to come up with some treatment options… or medication to give me some kind of relief. Even though both tests confirm small fiber poly neuropathy, she still has not offered me any ideas or suggestions for pain relief. NONE WHATSOEVER! My pain is so debilitating & many times unbearable. It has increased considerably since my first visit with her. She was made aware of that. I am only functional a few hours a day. But that does not seem to matter to Dr. oaklander. I feel that she has shown no compassion for the level of pain i have been in. I was given false hope by her. Finally, i thought, there was a neurologist that could come up with something to improve the quality of my life, especially since my nerve pain is my worst pain & neuropathy is her specialty. It does not matter how good a doctor is, though, if they are unavailable--And if you have to wait over 2 years before getting a "possible treatment option". I just wonder if it was her that was on the other end if she would be OK with waiting that long. I am no better off for seeing her. In fact, after my frustrating & very disappointing experience with her, i doubt if i will ever see any neurologists ever again.
