Dr. Anne M. Wallace, MD

Dr. Wallace and her entire team did an excellent job with my breast surgery. I truly don't believe I could get better care anywhere else. I consulted with many surgeons prior to getting my bilateral mastectomy with Dr. W earlier this month. She stood out as someone who is both a breast oncology surgeon and a plastic surgeon. She is diligent, caring and at the top of her craft. She's direct and honest with her perspectives, which I like; I was able to mentally prepare myself because she was direct with me about what to expect. She and the team answered all of my questions - both through the online portal and in person. She sees a lot of patients each day and in order to care for so many, she takes a team approach - Vince, Shauna, Bona, Jonna and more - there's an entire team of dedicated, kind nurses to answer questions, alongside Dr. W. The surgery itself couldn't have gone smoother. The team managed my pain well and not only did Dr. W diligently remove all of the breast tissue, she… also left me with an aesthetically pleasing flat closure. I'm recovering so quickly, I feel great, and I will be forever grateful to her and her team.

Dr Wallace and her team provided excellent care during my breast cancer journey. Dr Wallace is very direct and did not mince words when it came to my diagnosis and treatment plan, and she gave me all of the time I needed to ask questions. She provided detailed answers and was very thorough. Her staff also was answered my questions on off hours and were very attentive. Dr Wallace and her team deserve 5+ stars for the care I received!

I used Dr Wallace for a lumpectomy in 2007, when I had my original breast cancer diagnosis. Everything went fine at that time, so I went to her again when I had a local recurrence in 2015. I only wanted a mastectomy, but she sweet talked me into lat flap reconstruction. Worst decision of my life. The reconstruction has left me in constant 24/7 pain and discomfort. She did try to help by sending me to pain clinic, but really she had no answers, and she and her staff treated me like I was a hysteric. Even worse, the revision surgery she did in 2016 that involved a lift on my “good” side masked a new primary that she and my UCSD onc refused to MRI due to post-op inflammation. Fortunately I left UCSD, and not only did my new oncologist catch the new primary, but also the brain metastasis that ensued. Basically UCSD directly contributed to my Stage IV cancer, plus left me in extreme, chronic pain in discomfort for my last days.

After much research, and getting differing opinions and recommendations from three surgeons and medical groups, I’m so glad I selected Dr. Wallace and UCSD (the area’s only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center) for my breast cancer surgery. Thanks to Dr. Wallace's persistence and radiology’s thoroughness, a second cancer was identified (that was overlooked by other facilities). This meant just one surgery instead of multiple surgeries, not to mention reducing the risk of continued growth of the second cancer. Dr. Wallace’s expertise (years of experience plus her unique combination of surgical oncology and plastic surgery) also allowed me to benefit from breast conservation instead of mastectomy. I have peace of mind knowing I selected the best possible surgeon and facility for my breast cancer treatment.

Dr. Wallace is a top notch surgeon. I highly recommend and am alive and healthy thanks to her expertise.

I had a horrible experience with this surgeon and would never recommend someone to see her for mastectomy or reduction surgeries. Very little post-op care even after I got an infection after breast removal. I ended up switching to another doctor for all post-op care and further treatment. When talking to another patient in the waiting room I was told some horror stories that made me wonder what any of us were ever doing there in the first place.

Friendly and well organized staff. Physician herself spends little time with you.......information mostly from staff. Her focus is on the surgery......period.

This "woman" is one of the most vile and evil human beings I have ever had the displeasure of having to cross paths with. I would never entrust this individual with anything of value to me especially my life. There are better and more compassionate physicians in SD.

I saw Anne at the age of 32 and she had the most insensitive bedside manners of any doctor I have ever seen. I was diagnosed by her as a stage 1 breast cancer patient , she would not offer me a PET scan, any blood tests or body imaging to allow for a complete diagnosis. In fact she saw a lesion in my liver due to just fate on my part during a breast MRI and still would not evaluate the liver, thankfully I got a second opinion and learned I had stage 4 breast cancer that was shown in a PET scan.
