Dr. Annique Ruth Caplan, PhD

Annique cannot separate her personal views from her ability to work effectively. She was very unprofessional and did not hold space for my experience and views as a woman of color. She would cite her own Black friends as though that should be enough for me to change my mind. She would ignore or discount my feelings. While it's important to uncover why you have particular triggers based on your past it doesn't dismiss the present. That is where she failed miserably. We asked for communication tools she said no just bring your arguments to me. Rather than helping us learn to talk to each other she decided our arguments for us- always leaving one of us feeling either vindicated or defeated with no resolve. In her insertion of her own opinion she spent an additional hour trying to convince me to do something that went against my values and violated my personal choice. Her berating me traumatized me so deeply that it triggered my PTSD I'm still working on regulating from this.

I am a LCSW myself and saw Annique when I was in grad school. She encouraged me to bring my now-husband to sessions and subsequently aligned with him. I now can see how unethical she was but as a 20-something yo struggling with trauma and anxiety, the last thing she said to me was a criticism about how bad a person I am that took YEARS to get over and I've been afraid to get back into therapy ever since. I want to report her to the board.

I love working with Annique. She is a genuine human being who truly cares about her patients.
