Dr. Anoop Appannagari

I went to see Dr. Appannagari for stomach pain, as well as various other symptoms. We had a colonoscopy and for some reason he decided not to test me during colonoscopy for some various possibilities of what might be wrong. He didn't do one biopsy, didn't check for bacteria, didn't check for colitis, he just did visual observation. Following, my stomach gets worse, I call, I tell him the worsening symptoms, and I felt very minimized. I was told with mental health struggles, your stomach can act up. I get that, I am actually a PTSD therapist. So, I know the connections. However, I told him, it feels like something else is going on. He ensured me, it wasn't , nothing going on, it's mostly all in my head. Sure, maybe you have IBS, most mainly it's probably PTSD. I'm still in pain, I email. Not a big deal again he says. Okay, I go to Mayo, because even if it is mostly all in my head, I want to make sure. Mayo decides another colonoscopy is going to be a lot after I had the last one. So… we do a sigmoidoscopy. They test for all the possible things it could be.... I had SIBO, HPYLORI, and Lymphocytic colitis.... But yeah, It's all in my head right? This is the issue, I don't know how he is with other patients, but it very much felt like a minimizing of another woman complaining. And as a doctor, you shouldn't do that. I emailed, told him what happened. His response was, you didn't tell me about the diarrhea. I did, I emailed about it, I told him in the office. And never once did he put on my diagnosis list, the IBS mixed he told me I had. I also found that interesting, since he kept telling me it was just IBS, because I got PTSD. Needless to say, I didn't go back. I hope that he can find some testicular fortitude and maybe get some more education of the bias he clearly has with women. I wanted to share, in case any one else has this experience. Maybe, the pain is also there because something is very wrong, not just because you struggle with PTSD, or any other mental health struggles.
