I'd read the comments before going, and had hoped they were just trolls from a disgruntled customer. Nope. Everyone was spot on. I have 5 ruptured disc and just a ton of arthritic problems, and out of the gate he's selling sleep apnea. He wouldn't really listen. I tried to tell him that my problem was being able to fall asleep because I'm always in pain, but he shushed me, and told me he'd been doing this for 20 years, and before then he was a scientist...I'm going back to my other Doctor, I don't care if I have to pay out of pocket.

I had the first, last, most terrible appointment with this so-called neurologist. He seemed to want to rush me through the appointment, asked very few questions (because I think he thought he had ALL the answers), paid attention more to typing on his computer than to me, ordered lab work, brain MRI, sleep study. Once I got the lab work and MRI results from my OWN doctor, I found out the Rx be prescribed for me was for people who have migraine headaches (which I don't have) I found 'that' out from my OWN doctor. I will never go back or recommend anyone to him ever. If I had a dog I wouldn't even bring a dog to him. Appears to think highly of himself, not thinking about the patient. I quickly called and cancelled my next appointment with him. I also cancelled the sleep study, as per other reviews it seems it appears he pushes getting a CPAP machine onto patients. I hope patients planning on an appointment with him checks his reviews first. He's not the only neurologist in Alachua county.

As a nurse, I was referred for a sleep study eval..he measured my neck circumference. Looked in my mouth, listed to my heart and lungs and proceeded to inform me I had narrow airways, beacuase my tongue was too big for my mouth, causing my sleep apnea, when I answered no to most of the questions on the intake summary. his high pressure to sell me a CPAP, scare tactics that included sudden death, cariac arrest, , stroke and dementia..even when I noted that I have no family history for those..he became argumentative, to the point of suggesting that he had other patients happy to take my place...I will not be bullied into care I do not feel I need, and will not accept not being an active participant in deciding my care options...his demeanor was one of the worst I have encountered in almost 30years of professional nursing in a mnagement positons....Run away fast!

Very knowledgeable, very professional, very thorough, very good at explaining your health conditions and concerns...I would, and have, referred others to this practice and to Dr. Ackerman and his staff.

My first app I was not told to be there early for paperwork I thought that since I was already established with some that I didn't need to do paperwork. I felt pressure to get it done while he ran in in out of exam room putting things in his computer. I have several illness that have been diagnosed with and he telling me that I don't have the illness. He had me fill out headache from. And I didn't qualify for his headache clinic. Now he is sending me to his sleep apnea clinic. He does not make eye contact he is too busy typing in his little computer. He does not listen to you.

At first, this doctor seems friendly and helpful. After a short period of time, his attitude changed. I find this doctor to be very abrupt, sarcastic, and difficult. While the nurse seems pleasant, I cannot recommend this doctor to anyone.

After reading the other reviews here, I feel fortunate that because I was five minutes past the 15 minutes this office allows a person to be late for an appointment, Dr. Ackerman refused to see me and the nasty receptionist told me I would have to reschedule my new patient appointment. Never mind that I'm talking about 5 minutes here, and that I called the to let them know I was on my way there and that I told them how difficult it is for me, as a nurse, to take time off from my job to even go to an appointment. None of it mattered, my trouble and stress to get there and the time I sat there before the receptionist bothered to tell me that the doctor would not see me, and the absolute disinterest of the receptionist AND the doctor. He came out and saw me sitting there and frankly, he looked beyond uncompassionate, even like a cold fish. Based on my treatment there, I voted with my feet," thanked" the receptionist, and left with no intention of EVER returning there again. Adios style.

Didn't seem to be able to diagnose and treat; instead wanted to send us to someone else for each little thing. Did not want to prescribe something for anxiety but wanted to send us to Ocala to a psychiatrist

I was diagnosed with epilepsy 10 years ago; since that time, I have been going to a very good doctor at Shands. My seizures were under control and I was doing very well. This year, I had to change insurance, which my old doctor did not accept, so I went to Dr. Ackerman. In the space of 2 short visits, without doing any tests of his own, he tried to tell me that my seizures were not seizures, they were psychogenic episodes. He basically insinuated that my seizures were all in my head and suggested that I go to a psychiatrist. This is disregarding the fact that my seizures are very clearly documented and witnessed by family members and medical personnel. His bedside manner is horrible; during the appointments he asked me if I was taking my medicine and not skipping any doses; I answered with a very clear "yes." He then felt the need to ask the same question four more times, as if he didn't believe me. We also had an issue with my medication; my previous medical team had told me very… clearly not to take the generic brand of medication that I am on (it not only failed to stop my seizures; it caused them to worsen). The insurance was refusing to pay for the name-brand, so I asked Dr. Ackerman what to do. He was very dismissive, saying, "What do you want me to do? You're just going to have to shell out the money for the name-brand." He showed no concern for my opinions or peace of mind, treating me very dismissively, as if I were an idiot that was not worth his time. Overall, the worst doctor I have ever been to. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy.
