This doctor refused to provide any accommodations whatsoever (texting, writing on paper, wearing a clear mask for lipreading, using video, etc) to an elderly profoundly hearing impaired patient and her profoundly hearing-impaired (legally deaf) caretaker despite several requests for help in communicating the issues of the patient. This is discrimination on the basis of disability. Hospitals and staff are required to find ways to resolve accessibility barriers faced by patients and their family members even during COVID-19. He also kept echoing in a mocking tone the questions asked by the patient, as though they seemed silly or irrelevant. He gave her a large dose of diuretic medicine through her IV but never prepared her for what would happen in the next few moments which was excessive urination. She was humiliated with the messes that ensued and lack of privacy. Clothes were saturated. Only help given was a huge bedpan too large to hold. Dr. just stood staring at her. Dr. lacks… empathy and is cruelly and coldly condescending.
