Dr. Anthony Joseph Laporta

Saw him when I had breast cancer. Refused to believe me when I said I felt a second tumor, because he couldn't feel it. Thank goodness for the MRI I had right before surgery. If I'd had a lumpectomy, instead of the mastectomy I decided on, the second tumor would have been missed. Several hours after surgery, I developed a hematoma that required emergency surgery. Dr. Laporta was supposed to be on call, but was nowhere to be found. The surgeon who did my reconstruction (Philippe Capraro...my hero) was headed to a speak at a conference in Florida, but got off the plane and did the surgery himself. Dr. Laporta showed up the next day and blamed my pre surgical anxiety and resulting high blood pressure for the hematoma. I never saw him again. When it was time for chemo, I showed up to meet the oncologist (Alan Feiner) who Dr. Laporta raved about as THE BEST. Come to find out, the oncologist was actually a hematologist who seemed to be making it up as he went along. I contacted a… breast cancer navigator and she was baffled as to why Dr. Laporta didn't refer me to one of the two breast cancer specialists in the same practice as the hematologist. And now I see that he's teaching at CU medical school. Sad.

Had surgery and never saw him again other than the 2 minutes he spent checking in on me the next day in the hospital. He spent most of that time dismissing my concerns. Then he passed me off to his medical assistant for followup. At my first follow up appointment I was informed that he'd retired the week before. It's my opinion that doctors shouldn't accept surgical cases when they're not prepared to hang aound for a couple months of follow up. At the very least it would have been nice to know before hand.
