He completed his general surgery residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey Medical …School, Newark, New Jersey, and spent an additional two years conducting research related to trauma hemorrhagic shock and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. He completed his fellowship in Multi-Organ Transplantation/Hepatobiliary Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University. Prior to joining Weill Cornell, Dr. Watkins was Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Watkins was recognized by Super Doctor, as a New York Rising Star in 2015 and a recipient of the Top Healthcare Professionals Under 40 Award by the National Medical Association in 2013. In addition, Dr. Watkins has been repeatedly recognized by Castle Connolly as one of "America's Top Doctors", an honor given to the top 1% of all physicians in the country.
