Dr. Bistrain graduated from UC Berkeley in 1988 with a BA in Molecular Biology and went onto attend dental school at UC San Francisco graduating in 1993 in the top third of his class. He was awarded the Flemming Scholar award for excellence in Oral Surgery in 1993.
Dr. Bistrain has been in private practice since August 1993. The original office location was on Channing Way, three blocks from UC Berkeley. In October 1999 Dr. Bistrain purchased Dr. Wynne Smallwood's dental practice and has been practicing at the current location since. He no longer practices at the Channing Way location. Dr. Bistrain has spoken on more than one occasion to the Tang Center UC Berkeley Medical Staff instructing them on how to triage dental emergencies from their medical patients. Dr. Bistrain has also volunteered for the “head start" programs in west Berkeley. He has provided instruction at Western Career College in the Dental Assisting Program in neighboring Emeryville, CA.
Past positions held include …working at Federal Correctional Institute, Dublin, CA 1995-1996.
