Dr. Anumeha Kohli, MD

I have seen Dr. Kohli for the past two years and am very pleased with her knowledge and understanding of my health issues.

She has been my physician in Austin for several years and I've several medical issues.... She's wonderful, empathetic, precise and ensures the best of care.... Now my daughter goes to her also. When they say they "treat you like family," yes, they do! I'm now in California and sooo wishing I were back in Austin, able to have the best primary physician ever...!

Have been looking for a good, sensible, general care/Internist since we moved back to Austin. Saw Dr. A. Kohli because my husband was very happy with a different doctor he was seeing at Premier Family Physicians. On initial visit she seemed knowledgeable and caring. Told me she would look over my health history thoroughly and see me in 4 weeks to go over everything. Also said her office would fax/ call in my regular prescriptions before they left that day so I would have them within few days. Fast forward 2 weeks later and STILL NO PRESCRIPTION REFILLS ORDERED! I called her office several times about the problem as had been without some important medications that you should never stop taking abruptly (as I have several chronic autoimmune conditions). I spoke to 3 different people during 3 different calls. They THEN called in my prescriptions HOWEVER, without consulting with me during my visit or beforehand, this doctor just decided she would cut my sleep medication in LESS… THAN HALF of my normal dosage that I've been taking for several years ("because of FDA guidelines"). HOWEVER, apparently this Dr. A. Kohli never read or comprehended what "the FDA guidelines" stated. They 'suggested' the decrease in dosage for women who take the sleep med and then drive to work early following day (which I don't do since I work out of our home online). The guidelines ALSO state that "IF a patient and their doctor agree they need to reduce dosage, "to DO SO GRADUALLY," and never just cut dose in half in one day. (Duh, this is elementary stuff that any doctor should know). The "guidelines" also say that "the doctor and patient should DISCUSS THIS together and, IF it is determined that the dosage should be reduced, then you reduce the 'time released' type down to a lower 'time released' dosage." But, Dr. Kohli reduced my time released sleep med from 12.5mg down to 5mg of "quick release" medication. FINALLY, the "GUIDELINES" state that "IF a patient is unable to sleep with the lower dosage to go back to initial dose." When I wrote a very concise letter to Dr. Kohli quoting said guidelines and pointing out her mistake, her nurse or asst. then said "pertaining to your argument, Dr. Kohli will only decrease to 1/2 of your regular time-released' [as opposed to changing from time-release to quick release -which FDA Guidelines say NOT to do]. Ok, gee, thanks then. She was not concerned with the fact that I was not getting but a few hours of sleep per night, or, that it was essential to reduce the dosage "gradually." I told the assistant, "there is no 'argument,' these are just the actual guidelines - which she was not adhering to." So, with 4 chronic, debilitating conditions - including heart problems from another med for lupus, I was withOUT sleep med for over a week, and now, getting 1/2 my reg dose SUDDENLY with no tapering. Subsequently experiencing a flare up of 3 of my conditions and intense pain 24/7. CLEARLY this doctor never bothered to actually READ these 'guidelines,' and clearly, her concern for my health and suffering do not exist. I am married to a Doctor (who is very compassionate and even does a % of pro bono work) and I am a wellness expert (and operated a very successful Physical Rehab, Nutrition, & holistic fitness center for 20 years), and still work as a wellness writer/researcher. We will be filing a complaint with the AMA and, highly recommend if you are seeking HealthCARE, to stay clear of this doctor!
