Dr. Apoorv Yashpal Kalra, MD

I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Kalra. When everyone else in the hospital thought my significant other had cancer unless "proven otherwise", Dr. Kalra was called in as a consult. He came into a room of a crying patient and family members, and quickly helped redirect us to the problem at hand. He was the ONLY one who asked us to tell our story and take him to the beginning to wherever we thought that beginning was. He patiently listened to a 30 minute story that spanned over 7 months and I shared everything that had happened to my boyfriend over that time. I told him that ever Dr. we saw about yet a new symptom/problem my boyfriend was experiencing kept treating that specific problem.....that they weren't seeing the possibility that it was all related....even though we suggested that they explore that. Dr. Kalra actually listened to us and looked at the big picture and believed us when we said we thought every infection even though in various areas of the body was… related. We were stunned!!! Finally, a Dr. who listened and believed that it was related. Within a day, (even though I think he already knew what it was at the end of us telling our story) he had a preliminary diagnosis that was validated 2 weeks later through the growth of a culture. He began treatment immediately at the time of the preliminary diagnosis....even though we didn't have a firm diagnosis because of the seriousness of the infection. If it hadn't been for Dr. Kalra, my boyfriend would not have survived. Not only is Dr. Kalra tops in my book, his office personnel....particularly Jessica.....is fabulous. She truly went above and beyond to find the proper pharmaceutical lab that would be accepted by his insurance to ensure his aftercare once he was out of the hospital. I firmly believe that the quality of the office personnel (receptionist all the way up the chain of command) directly reflects on the quality of the Drs. Now, fast forward 5 months later, I personally experienced an infection from a cactus cut. Although being treated by my primary care to no avail, I, on a whim, thought maybe I should contact Dr. Kalra's office since the infection wasn't responding to the oral antibiotics. From a phone call inquiry; Jessica, via Dr. Kalra's direction, very quickly made me realize how serious this was and as a result, I ended up in the hospital for 5 days with an infection that had spread into the tendon shealth of two of my fingers because my primary care Dr. did not realize that after 2 weeks of no improvement via oral antibiotics, my only option was IV antibiotics and possibly surgery to clean out the infection. I was told by the hand specialist that I saw in the hospital that I was very lucky because if it had gotten into the bone, then the only option would have been amputation of those fingers. Who knew!!! A cactus cut that looked like a bad paper cut could have created that kind of health drama for me. I must say, 2021 has been a challenging year for both my boyfriend and me healthwise; but we are well on our way to good health....thanks to Dr. Kalra and his nursing staff. I know if we ever have any other health concerns that our respective primary care Drs. can't figure out, we will not hesitate calling Dr. Kalra at Metro Infectious Disease Consultants. He is a Dr. who will continue to delve into your case until he finds the proper diagnosis to your health issue.

Dr. Kalra, is awesome! Beside manner is great, takes time with the patient and is excellent about keeping communication with the family. My mom was under his care for several months and he went above and beyond the call of duty with her and the family. Thanks Dr. Kalra, keep up the excellent work.

Dr. Kalra is thorough, efficient and calls the family on a regular basis in a timely manner with test results. My mom has been under his care for quite a few months now, and we have had excellent care. Keep up the excellent work Dr. Kalra.
