Dr. Aracelis Dulce A Fernandez, MD

A native of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Fernandez obtained her medical degree after graduating cum laude from the prestigious Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre and Maestra. After completing her pediatric internship and residency at The Childrens Hospital at Albany Medical Center, she finished a fellowship at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Fernandez joined the Department of Pediatrics at Albany Medical Center in 2000. In 2006 she joined the Columbia University faculty at Harlem Hospital. In January 2011 Dr. Fernandez became Medical Director of the Adolescent AIDS Program at The Childrens Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Fernandez serves on the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute Pediatric HIV Treatment Guidelines Committee and the Dominican Republic National AIDS Program Pediatric HIV Treatment Guidelines Committee. Previously, she was site principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored Pediatric AIDS Clinical …Trial Group (PACTG) studies and co-investigator for International Maternal Pediatric and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT). Currently, Dr. Fernandez is co-principal investigator for the NIH-sponsored Adolescent Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions at the Adolescent AIDS Program, The Childrens Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Fernandez was honored with the Academic Scholarship from Daniel Espinal, Inc., the Wiggers Fellowship Award, and the Foundation for Treatment of Children with AIDS Fellow Award.
