Dr. Ariana Leigh Smith, MD

Dr Smith performed a VVF repair on me. The VVF was a result of a hysterectomy I had by a different gynecologist from a different health system. I found both Dr Smith and MaryCRNP to be very caring and professional. They both took their time with me and thoroughly explained everything to me. They were honest and very supportive. They helped me heal both physically and mentally. Dr Smith and Mary were extremely supportive and helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life. I am very appreciative for all Dr Smith and Mary did for me and I highly recommend Dr Smith and her team. It’s been about a year and a half since my VVF repair by Dr Smith and I am doing well.

I have been seeing Dr Smith for about 1 year and am a male. I have not encountered any of the negative issues from other reviews I have read. She has taken the time with each appointment to explain any issues and listened to my concerns. I had been seeing a prior Urologist that was not willing to listen as well and was also not as proactive. I recently had an outpatient procedure Dr Smith performed and all has gone well. Her nurse Mary is great and quick to respond to phone calls, etc and is great at office visits. Only issue I have encountered is with scheduling dept on a couple of occasions with timely responses.

Dr Smith hands down no questions asked, saved my life, better yet, she gave me a quality of life. I was paralyzed about 4 years before I saught out a surgeon to preform an (extremely) unknown and difficult surgery. I had no idea what I was getting into- all I knew was that after Getting saline pumped into my bladder to see if it held ANYTHING post SCI- I failed the test. My bladder was basically dead. Dr Smith agreed to do a surgery that I was advised to FIGHT for. With her, there was no fight. I don’t remember much about that first visit- as I was in a horrible mental place- but I do remember dr smith looking at me promising me she would get it done. She looked at me as a woman, not a patient. She knew it wasn’t fair to live that way if she had the skill to fix it. Through the pre surgery process she was very calm and nonchalant about what would take place. She knew more than I that this would be a fight but she knew i could do it. Before they wheeled me in on the… stretcher she looked at me and said “this is going to be a big deal, it’s going to be a major recovery, but I promise you this will be worth it” I asked her why she didn’t say that from the start and her response was, “Because you wouldn’t have done it, just trust me” After 8 hrs of surgery, over a week in ICU, 4 weeks of INPATIENT rehab and another few of home nursing later... I thank her silently every day of this life... 4-5 yrs free of a catheter bag and countless mistakes that prevented me from a life. I owe what I have to her, she’s wonder!!

So glad to see Dr. Smith is still with Penn Medicine. She was my doctor for surgery 7 yrs. ago. I could not have had better care. Dr. Smith is an outstanding physician who really cares about her patients.

She did not address or listen to my concerns, and would repeat the same explanations that did not answer my questions.

My experience was good with here even know it was not her area of expertise. Have seen 3 doctors including Dr. Smith. Both others could do nothing and misdiagnosed. Dr. Smith got things right from the start. I have to give her credit, she out did a doctor 30 years older then her and went to best school in the country. And Penns technology made my surgery 10 time easier. So I do recommend her even if your a guy, because she knows you stuff.

What's most memorable is Smith's lack of empathy. She borders on being cruel. Forget for a minute that her bedside manner stinks, the real problem is, she doesn't care about you!

I can not recommended Dr. Smith enough. And I have a difficult time believing the negative reviews below are legitimate. She was kind, caring and very thoughtful. She is highly intelligent and takes time to thoroughly consider a patients entire medical history. After being misdiagnosed by a different urologist who told me I would spend my entire life on antibiotics, I traveled to Penn to seek the opinion of the best doctors in urology. I was not disappointed. Dr. Smith, explained the overuse of antibiotics is part of my problem and provided a more reasonable solution. If you are a female seeking help from a urologist, I highly recommend Dr. Smith

Either Smith resents being a doctor or she just hates people! Her inability to be forthright and honest is shocking. Her lack of common human decency is appalling. And, her callous disregard for the well being of her patients should be crime!
