Dr. Armand Matheny Antommaria, MD

Armand H. Matheny Antommaria, MD, PhD, FAAP, is Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Inpatient Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities. As a "hospitalist," Dr. Antommaria cares for children admitted to the general inpatient services at Primary Children’s Medical Center. These children range from previously healthy children with a single acute illness such as pneumonia to children with chronic illnesses affecting many different parts of their bodies. As an "ethicist," Dr. Antommaria chairs the Ethics Committee at Primary Children’s and teaches in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Antommaria received his MD at Washington University School of Medicine is Saint Louis, MO and his PhD in religious ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine and has been a member of the Division of Pediatric Inpatient Medicine since its beginning.

Dr. …Antommaria’s research focuses on issues in clinical ethics that he has encountered through his clinical and administrative responsibilities. He has published on a variety of topics including pandemic triage, donation after cardiac death, and conscientious objection. He recently completed a six year term of service on the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Bioethics and is the lead author of its policy on "Physician refusal to provide information or treatment on the basis of claims of conscience."
