Dr. Khachatryan was so helpful, a couple days after my surgery he neck felt great a would recommend him to everyone

Excellent surgeon, I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for great results. He is honest and not pushy. His patients well being are his top concern.

I've had 5+ surgeries, worked in healthcare, been a caregiver. Poor level of care and treatment.

I just had surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago from Dr. Armen Kashatryan (Dr. K). I replaced the discs between C4-C5 and C5-C6. I felt really well right after surgery, and walked a lot the first night at Riverton Hospital. I had pain medication for the first four days, but I believe I could have managed my little pain without them. The first week, my usual, horrible, pre-surgery pain was substituted by pain on top of my shoulders (level 4 pain on a scale of 1-10) and a feeling of great heaviness. My neck, where the nearly perfect incision is, never caused any pain. Even with the post-op discomforts, I was already 75% better than before surgery. The second week was great and the pain in my shoulders went away almost entirely. For the last week and a half I had zero pain. My guess is that not everyone responds this well, but I have no doubt Dr. K’s skills played a major part in the way I’m feeling right now. He has performed more disc replacement than any other surgeon in the U.S. and was selected… out of all of the neuro surgeons in Utah to participate in the FDA trials for disc replacemt that were done years ago. I get emotional every time I think about how well I’m feeling. What a great blessing to feel like I used to feel when I had a perfect back. I have been walking lots, and today I started some Pilates reformer exercises in the morning. Just very mild movements because I’m not free to exercise until week six. It is the evening now and I’m in zero pain. I saw Dr. Kashatryan yesterday for my post-op visit. I saw the X-Ray showing the bone starting to grow around the discs in just three weeks. Pretty soon these discs will be part of my body like my own old damaged discs. I’m taking an excellent Calcium supplement from New Chapter. I bought it at Amazon. Great reviews, and like I said, my bone is already growing around the discs. It is very noticiable on the X-Ray. When Dr. K performed my surgery, my discs were already starting to fuse on their own, so the surgery was harder than the usual to perform. The easy thing for him to do, would be to do a fusion since I had already agreed on that, and signed the consent in case he was not able to replace the discs during surgery, but instead, he worked very hard to replace my discs because he knew this surgery would work really well for me. I’m only 54. I almost cried when he told me that in three more weeks I have no more restrictions. If I exercise and build-up my muscles, I can even carry my grand babies who are over 20 pounds. A fusion would never allow me to do that. I am so thankful to this great surgeon who has a wonderful heart! I’m also greatful to his very knowledgeable nurse practitioner who answered so many questions for me. No money in this world can pay Dr. Kashatryan for the way I feel now, however my insurance took care of the bill haha. I am so happy I was guided to this surgeon after much prayer and ponderation on the matter. I strongly recommend disc replacement with Dr. Armen Kashatryan versus a fusion. I advice anyone seeking this surgery to travel to Utah and have it from him. The longest this disc device has been implanted in someone is 15 years. The longest Dr. K have implanted is 12 years, with zero recall. The devices in the past were not very good, but this new device that surgeons started using 15 years ago, are meant to last a life time. I hope my long review will answer most of the questions someone my might have about disc replacement. In the U.S., the insurance only pays for replacemt in the cervical spine since it is the only area with proven long lasting results. Thank you Dr. Kashatryan! You are my hero!

For what it's worth, I have been in the emergency medical field for 30yrs. Dr. K must be an amazing surgeon, otherwise I don't know how he stays in business. The process/office interaction is horrible beyond belief. I was seen by the PA and asked to get a nerve study for impending surgery. After 3 1/2 weeks of incompetence, no response, and leaving voicemails I gave up. As I am suffering ongoing nerve issues and potentially causing long term damage, I went to the U of U Orthopedic center and can't say enough. From the initial call they were so friendly, responsive, and MOST importantly knowledgeable; I was amazed. Within one week I was scheduled with Dr. Spiker and have surgery in three weeks. They have four surgeons and it seems that they are all equally great options.

I have visited with Dr. K. twice now... Once last month about my neck. And today about my lower back. I was involved in two separate accidents that were catastrophic to both parts of me, causing injuries 11 and 6 years ago respectively to neck discs and lower back discs. I am in extreme pain 24 hours a day to the point I cannot function. I do not sleep more than 2-3 hours a night, I cannot work more anymore and I have had 10 surgeries just to get my arms and hands to a semi functional state again. During both visits, Dr K has stated to me that I am not a good candidate for surgery. I was very upset the first visit last month when he sent me away saying this to me. And not offering me any suggestions to alternative treatments or methods to cotrnol my pain. But I was even more upset and sad today. I am only 40 years old and this has ruined my life from the age of 29 right up to now. I begged the doctor today to please help me at least think of a solution to help me, even if it is not… surgical, to control my pain. Or refer me to another specialist who may be able to help me with their expertise. He did not. I do believe I touched the doctor today. I could see it in his eyes. But I also left feeling he didn’t offer anything else. Which was a giant let down. And after reading a lot of the reviews from the different review pages, I see some similarities. The funny thing is two other surgeons already told me I needed suregry on my lower back about 2 1/2 years ago, were both ready to schedule me if I was ready to go ahead with it and I declined because I was scared of how big of a surgery it may be. And now Dr. K is telling me I am not even a candidate for it. Well, I have two other docs outside of all of these networks lined up to give me another opinion. So then I can make an educated, decision. I waited two hours past my appointment time today, although his nurse apologized about it numerous times. I will update my review accordingly after my appointments and add the new information as well.

Please look for another doctor. It was only after my surgery from Dr. K that I was running into people with equally horrible experiences that said don't go to him. I was in horrible pain as soon as I came out of surgery, and they would only give me very limited pain meds per doctors orders. The nurses felt so sorry for me because they couldn't do more and they knew that level of pain would hinder my recovery and it has. No one from his office recommended physical therapy. I was suddenly supposed to be better. Oh, you're not? Here go to this pain clinic, that's where we send all of his patients. Seriously?! There is something wrong in your practice if so many of your patients need the pain clinic He just wants repeat business. I should have had a larger procedure then what he did. I had a spinal fusion (not my first, but my first with him), and a few months post surgery I was told by another doctor that I should have had 2 tiers fused instead of 1 because of the degeneration. So a… few months out and I could actually have another fusion. So incredibly disappointed in him and his staff and the care or lack of that I received from them. It's just a business to them.

These people don't care about you. His staff is mouthy and doesn't treat you like an individual. They just want to run you through as fast as possible. He should have fused another tier of my back, and 6 months out and I'm at a pain clinic where he sends all of his patients and I could easily have another surgery.

My mother is 80 years old and a suffered with that pain for years that shut all the way down her legs. She had surgery, now is completely pain-free. This doctor treated her with respect, and took exceptional care of my mother.

REPAIRED MY BACK WITH SURGERY FIVE YEARS AGO AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY MORE PROBLEMS.
