Summary

I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles, Southern California. The second of four children, and with a knack for figuring out how things worked, I was the first in my family to finish college with a degree in physics. Originally, I worked as a research engineer for the Northrop Corporation.

Because of an early childhood experience in a car accident, and my positive experiences with the medical staff who treated me, my real goal in life was to serve others in the medical field. During medical school in Southern California, I met and married my wife, who went on to become a wonderful family practice physician.

My visual skills naturally lead me to study radiology after medical school. My hand-eye coordination naturally led me to do a fellowship in interventional radiology here in Oregon. My wife and I decided to stay and practice in Portland Oregon because we love the natural beauty and the people here.

About my practice

My main practice is diagnostic radiology. This involves interpreting x-rays, CAT scans and ultrasounds. I am a very visual person. It is very rewarding to me to recognize and diagnose disease as early as possible in order to help patients with their medical care. I feel very privileged to use my skills for the benefit of others.

My subspecialty is interventional radiology. This involves using medical imaging to provide treatment for disease or to provide more detailed and helpful diagnostic information. Examples include taking pictures of blood vessels (angiography), improving blood flow to diseased arteries (with angioplasty and/or stents), stopping internal bleeding (with angiographic embolization of bleeding vessels), treating cancer of the liver (with chemoembolization), treating uterine fibroids (with uterine artery embolization), treating blockages of the bile ducts or urinary system (by placing drainage catheters), and doing a variety of biopsy techniques.

This involves skilled 'hand-eye coordination' and a gentle/caring bedside manner, both of which, in my opinion, are equally important. Interventional radiology is interesting, challenging and allows me the opportunity to contribute so much to improving the health of others. How I thrive

I thrive by keeping my body, mind, and spirit active and enriched. For my body, I love running outdoors especially in our beautiful parks and forests. Canoeing our local lakes and rivers and hiking in our forests are other favorite activities of mine.

For my mind, I enjoy playing classical guitar, talking around the world on ham radio, listening to music and reading. For my spirit, I pray, meditate, and try to spend as much quality time as I can with my wife and two sons.
