Dr. Arsenio Eugenio Manalo

I've been going to Dr. Manalo for about five years and I am the type of person who has to go to the dentist more than routinelybecause I have soft teeth. He is by far the most gentle, caring, knowledgeable and skilled dentist I've had in my 40 years of having teeth. If you're nervous about the dentist, or your teeth are always in pain like mine, absolutely go to Dr. Manalo. He makes you feel cared for and is so gentle and relieves all of your anxieties.

We had a fairly good experience until recently when my son was found to have a cavity on a tooth that would need to be extracted. We were referred to see a pediatric dentist because they felt he was too fidgety/anxious to do the work safely. That's fine. So I called to get the referral letter the pediatric dentist required. I was then told they could not give us one because our insurance would not cover the cost. Yet they would not see him either! After calling our insurance company myself, I discovered that yes, they do not GENERALLY cover children above age 6; HOWEVER in a special circumstance, and with a referral from the primary care dentist, they would cover the procedure(s). I called the dentist back and relayed this information (which they should have known had they properly investigated), and they told me it's not their policy to give a referral if the insurance doesn't cover it. I'm sorry, why then did you refer my son to a pediatric dentist to begin with AND why then… would you not do your job and help take care of my son's teeth?! Don't say he should go to a specialist if you're not then going to back it up in writing. It's my job to haggle with the insurance company. Not only was this ridiculous and incompetent, the office was quite rude about it. In addition, I believe there was extreme negligence on their part because in my son's previous TWO 6-month check-ups, they gave him a clean bill. After seeing the pediatric dentist (because they grudgingly and finally gave us the referral letter), I asked if they should have noticed this tooth before. Given the level of decay, he told me it should have been picked up a year ago. A year ago!!! Had McMurray Dental done their job right to begin with, we wouldn't even be in this situation. It also makes me wonder how thorough they have been with the rest of my family's dental care. And after all of this, they then have the audacity to send us a letter saying they're "no longer comfortable providing your family's dental care." Really?! I already had another dentist lined up, but thank you for letting me know. It's disappointing that our time there ended this way, but I cannot in good conscience recommend their services to anyone, and I definitely would not take your children to this dentist.
