We felt it was time that our son should have his shunt removed, the doctor who originally installed it refused to take it out. He would always tell us, its in for the rest of his life. It was incredibly discouraging trying to find another neurosurgeon willing to even attempt the procedure. We were lucky enough to find Dr. Dipatri. This was one of the most stressful and scary situations our family had to deal with. Dr. Dipatri took extreme caution every step of the way, knowing that if our son truly still needed the shunt, we'd have to go through the entire procedure all over again. His careful, thoughtful approach gave us peace of mind during a time when we had very little.   If you're looking for a brilliant neurosurgeon with great bedside manner, someone who genuinely cares about kids and their comfort, Dr. Dipatri is your doctor.

In 2008 my son had a shunt that was severely infected. The hospital he had it placed at will remain unnamed, but they kept sending him home saying it was the flu. I took him to CMH and thankfully Dr Dipatri was on service. He identified the problem quickly, the infection had spread to the CSF fluid in his brain and through his abdomen. Standard protocol is to send him back to the surgeon who placed shunt. I begged him to please help because they keep sending us away. He was in such bad shape at this point that it was critical and no guarantee he would survive surgery. After almost a 5 hour surgery of abdomen, spine and brain to address all infected areas, he was moved to NICU. My son is now 21, Dr DiPatri saved his life when no one else would listen. God Bless this man, forever in debt to him.

Dr. DiPatri was assigned to our sons case after her suffered a traumatic fall and facial laceration and skull fracture. He repaired his fractured skull via craniotomy. As a neuro ICU RN of 15 years, I have many experiences with physicians, surgeons and medical staff. I thank God every night since his accident that Dr DiPatri was our surgeon. His bedside manner is above and beyond what I could have ever hoped for. His concern for my son and our whole family, his clear communication, his compassion and professionalism were extraordinary. The very first time we met was just prior to our son heading to the OR and his mere presence and gentle ways allowed me to hand over my baby to him with such trust and there are no words to express the relief both my husband and I felt upon having him take over the care of our child. His post-operative care, follow up visit and continued care have been exceptional. There aren't enough positive words to express our sincere appreciation for his expertise… and we are blessed to have him here in Chicago.

I have twins who have cranial synostosis. Dr. Dipatri was wonderful. He was so caring and gentle with both of them. He explained everything about the condition and the surgical procedure in such great detail. He answered all our questions and was just an amazing person throughout the whole emotional rollercoster we were on. I would highly recommend Dr. Dipatri for children. Amazing doctor!!
