If you're going to see this doctor I highly recommend fact checking everything he says. Google scholar is a great resource. The research on TMJ is minimal, which is why the TMJ Association (TMJA) states there is "no medical or dental speciality of qualified experts trained in the care and treatment of TMD." Despite this, the doctor makes claims about understanding the causal mechanisms of TMD and states that his splints will get rid of symptoms, even though according to the TMJA, research on the effectivity of splints is inconclusive. I was recommended a food sensitivity test, which is essentially a high-priced placebo (i.e. Tueber & Beyer, 2007). Expect the appointments to take somewhat of an emotional toll. The doctor does not utilize active listening skills and makes ignorant assumptions about your life. For example, I was told that I needed to stop worrying about my jaw and was probably having difficulty because I'm used to having control over everything in my life. This… statement was not based on anything I had said and does not match my life experiences. It's ignorant to assume patients are stressed out about their jaw as opposed to the influence of advanced TMD symptoms on day-to-day life. I would recommend saving your money and speaking with a doctor who discusses the risks and benefits of treatment options with you. All that being said, the splint I got has helped with managing symptoms of TMD, more so than previous splints I have tried. Was that worth the frustration and patronizing comments? I haven't decided.

The doctor was not able to zero in on the primary cause of my chronic headache condition with his somewhat arrogant attitude at the expense of my time and expense.

Dr Roberts has made a significant improvement in my quality of life. I have been dealing with chronic pain, grinding and bruxing for many, many years. Have had multiple bite splints made, but did not get the relief from pain from those as the one designed and made with him. What I like most about him is that he takes a holistic approach to care! I wish I had found him sooner, but will move on and get healthier with his guidance and care.

After having chronic pain in my face for almost two years, Dr. Roberts was able to determine my course of action for relief. Before seeing him, I had seen a total of eleven specialists. You definitely need to give Dr. Art Roberts a call and investigate you possiblilities for pain relief.

Dr. Roberts solved a problem I have had for 10 yrs. Other doctors where just grabbing at straws, and I have scene 6 different ones in the Indianapolis area. The man knows his stuff.

I had seen ten specialists for pain in my face. No other Dr. even came close to figuring out the problem. He really knows, cares and understands.

I would not recommend this doctor for anything anytime. A waste of time - does not take insurance and is very, very expensive $95.00 for initial visit and $350.00 for a consult with no diagnosis whatsoever. All he does is refer you to other specialists.
