Summary

Dr. Arti Easwar joined City of Hope Phoenix in August 2022. As both a hematopathologist and surgical pathologist, Dr. Easwar plays an integral role on a multidisciplinary team at City of Hope Phoenix, leveraging her specialized training in diagnosing various cancer types through tissue samples and blood cells. She’s especially excited to use her expertise to expand the hematological malignancies program, contributing to the City of Hope comprehensive model of care.“Even though I don’t have a lot of direct contact with my patients, I take my role in their care very seriously,” says Dr. Easwar. “I understand that there’s a person behind every sample, and I am dedicated to being efficient and accurate in order to give them an accurate diagnosis.”Dr. Easwar began her post-secondary education at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, where she earned a Bachelor of Science with majors in biology and chemistry and a minor in English. She went on to receive a Master of Arts in biomolecular sciences from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut. After Dr. Easwar earned her medical degree from Windsor University School of Medicine in Cayon, St. Kitts and Nevis, she went on to complete her residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. She has completed two fellowships, the first in surgical pathology at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, and the second in hematopathology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. She is board-certified in anatomical and clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, and certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.Dr. Easwar was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by her aunt, a pathologist who passed away when Dr. Easwar was 6. Though she was initially interested in pediatrics, she realized while completing her master’s that she loved learning by looking through microscopes, likening the process of determining diagnoses to figuring out “a puzzle.” Well-published in her field, Dr. Easwar has presented and written on topics such as reactive lymphadenopathies, molecular landscape of myeloproliferative disorders and juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia.Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Easwar enjoys making memories with her husband and two young children, exploring the outdoors and creating art.
