Dr. Ashhal Mohamed Jastaniah, MD

I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this clown at Pembroke Hospital, he denied critical medication for my Crohn’s disease, accused me of not being helpful, then claimed the only reason I got my medication 15 hours later was because he authorized it. The true story is he said I could wait until Monday (this was a Saturday) until one of the nurses interviewed me twice about the necessity of the medication. The only reason he finally authorized going to the drug store to get my medication is because they would have had to discharge me and he wanted to continue to milk my insurance. He is dismissive, rude, arrogant, combative, and has zero bedside manner, practices conflict avoidance(in direct conflict with what is “taught” in group). This is not a caring medical professional, he seems to think he’s the warden of some sick prison

Dr. Jastaniah was the first psychiatrist I saw as a young adult just beginning to address their mental health concerns. He misdiagnosed me, overmedicated me (I became essentially a zombie) and worst of all - he stripped me of hope: put me on disability and told me I would never be able to work, that I needed ECT treatment and would be medicated the rest of my life. Jokes on him because I've now been working in the mental health field for almost 10 years, have not been taking psychiatric meds for many of those years and found out my symptomology was a result of trauma and not the Bipolar label he slapped on me.

I'm really surprised at the high marks for this Doctor. The first time I went to see him, he took phone calls on my time, left the office to talk with another doctor in the hall and was very dismissive of me. He discussed NOTHING with me, just told me what my problem was and what he was going to do about it. Had he shown any compassion, there would have been a second appointment, but I got the distinct impression that women are beneath him. These doctors should remember that while they are sizing us up, we are doing the same. I couldn't get out of the office quickly enough. Too bad because I was also seeing one of his therapists and I actually liked her.

This doctor is very unprofessional he has no intuitive sense of the patients and is basically a managed care bureacrat.

Unable to treat patients with respect. You will be up against an attitute from the beginning. No compassion or true interest in what you are going thru. He will judge you by your actions alone and not do the Due diligence in order to make an accurate diagnosis. He told me how I should act while telling him how I was feeling. I felt very unomfortable and uncared for. No COMPASSION!
