Dr. Ashish Mukesh Shah, MD

My mom saw Dr. Shah for a consult. I sat in because she gets flustered & forgets things. She had an EKG, then he came in. After her history, she asked him for the EKG results. He said, "It would be too hard to explain." She asked if they were good or bad, he said, "Abnormal, but that's to be expected." She'd never seen a cardiologist, was visibly alarmed, so asked him to explain. He said it would be a waste of time to explain. I could see that my mom was really frustrated and flustered, so I asked, "In layman's terms, can you either explain the results, or what 'abnormal' means?" Dr. Shah said, "I could explain it, but I know you wouldn't understand what I was saying." A) You give a patient a test, you tell them the results. FIND a way to explain it. B) You say the results are abnormal, but explaining would be a ?waste of time? This was one of MANY things that went wrong during this appointment with Dr. Shah. FYI, my mom got in the car, and started apologizing and crying. Not exactly… heart healthy. P.S. We did file formal complaints with the Massachusetts Medical Board, Mass General, and the individual practice. Dr. Shah may know a lot about cardiology, but he appears to lack the ability to interact with humans.

Dr. Shah has to be one of the worst doctors I've ever encountered. I went with my mom to her initial visit; she's elderly and gets flustered easily, so I went to take notes and answer questions she couldn't. Dr. Shah did not answer questions asked, refused to give test results, said that we "wouldn't understand what he was telling us" if he tried to explain results or diagnosis, accused me of being racist (it's in his Visit Notes!), insulted my mom by telling her she was incomprehensible, and MUCH more. We have filed formal complaints with Massachusetts, Mass General, BCBS of Mass, and the Civil Rights Commission. BEWARE.
