Dr. Shanbhag joined National Spine & Pain Centers in 2012 after several years in private practice in South Carolina.Experienced and expertly trained, Dr. Shanbhag earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina – College Of Medicine. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota, followed by advanced fellowship training in Interventional Pain Management and in Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Shanbhag then went on to complete clinical postgraduate training in Endoscopic & Percutaneous Spine Surgery at Synergy Spine Center. He is one of few physiatrists both nationally and internationally to have completed advanced training in minimally invasive spine surgery.Board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, Dr. Shanbhag treats the spectrum of spine, joint, nerve, muscle, and soft tissue pain, with an emphasis on the therapeutic treatment of spinal disease. He has a …particular interest in endoscopic transforaminal (“keyhole”) treatments for spinal stenosis and herniated discs, as well as percutaneous discectomy. His expertise also includes image-guided procedures such as epidural injections, facet blocks, radiofrequency neuroablation, provocation discography, spinal cord stimulators, nerve blocks, joint injections, and soft tissue injections.He is also engaged in the medico-legal arena for patient healthcare related matters including IME’s, second opinions, worker’s comp, and personal injury.Dr. Shanbhag approaches every patient with an open and interested mind set and a singular purpose: to quickly identify, locate, and treat their individual and unique source of pain. Dr. Shanbagh is very detailed with determining my diagnoses and I’m comfortable with his knowledge and decisions moving forward.

When I went to Dr. Shanbhag for the first time, I could barely walk. Now after a few procedures, last one being a facet ablation, I am finally out of excruciating pain. I think he is an amazing doctor and am in awe as to how he does this for his patients. In my book he is the best.

This rotund obese man has the nerve to call new patients morbidly obese when it is not the case. In addition, he knows nothing about medicine.

My mom is the one who goes in for pain. The entire staff is wonderful. They are very patient and caring. We saw Michelle during at last visit. She was amazing. Answered all of our questions and suggested somethings and most importantly, she never looked at her watch to rush us out of there. She even spoke my neice briefly about gymnastics.

Dr. Seems nice, he is fast and when your in pain it's hard to be quick to answer questions so fast and thorough. Every office is different but I didn't feel it was a consult, because mri and x-rays were not reviewed before talking and meds were prescribed before all medical records were received. I only say that because certain pain meds are not good for the problem I have. Having paper work filled out is a bit unusual, I've never had to write a letter saying what I want, seems pretty cut and dry to fill out disability papers at least the last 3 Doctors have not needed this. Staff was knowledgeable, but good thing I don't have a problem with asking a lot of questions. When you have never went to a pain Doctor before and don't know what to expect this can really make you feel lost.

The staff is amazing and doctors are friendly answering all my questions and concerns. I was hestitant to see a pain doctor but am glad i am now my level has decreased; not much but i am able to walk more then i could before.
