Ashkan Monfared, MD is board-certified in Otolaryngology and was recruited from Stanford University to serve as the Director of Otology and Neurotology. Dr. Monfared is also a professor of surgery and neurosurgery at the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He completed his medical training, residency and fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. Previously he has served as staff surgeon in Otolaryngology at Stanford University Hospital and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. He has had the distinct honor of serving at Veteran Administration Hospital and Walter Reed National Medical Center. As a researcher in the areas of acoustic neuroma and inner ear imaging, he has authored several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters. He is the co-principal investigator of a multi-center prospective study on large acoustic neuromas (vestibular schwannomas) known as Acoustic Neuroma Subtotal Resection Study (ANSRS). His other current research interests are inner ear …physiology, otologic simulators, image guidance surgery, and resident education. Dr. Monfared has created the Comprehensive Hearing Center, which is one of the only adult cochlear implant programs in the Metro DC area. The Center serves the needs of patients with any degree of hearing loss and ear disease. Since 2004 Dr. Monfared has been active in international humanitarian medical missions. He is on the board of directors of Global ENT Outreach, a non-profit humanitarian organization providing assistance and education with otologic surgeries in many developing countries. He has served in Ethiopia, El Salvador, Belize, Peru, and the American Samoa. Dr. Monfared is a trained classical pianist and fluent in Persian.

I went to this "doctor" a while back - took some time to write this review for fear of retaliation. Right off the bat, he is pushy and forces his preconceived treatment on you despite having already done said treatment. Doesn't seem to listen to patients at all. Will cut you off and say, "I know I know." Feels like he has a chip on his shoulder. Also includes politics in his practice which is very unsettling. I'd rather now know some things. Anyway, ymmv with this doc. take a chance if you want. I'm never going back.

Horrible customer service and experience. Booking an appointment was dreadful. For first visit, I was told I had to come in with a valid hearing test done in the past 6 months. When asked where I should get one done, the person told me to go to Costo (I don't have a Costco membership). I asked for other options, they didn't have any. Two weeks later I called back for help and explained I had tried other places but that each wanted a referral. I was again told to go to Costco. When there is an Audiology portion of GW as part of ENT, why the Costco push? Why not just offer some assistance or resources? I'll find another provider who has better staff. This has soured me on all GW providers as it isn't the first time I have experienced bad service from the staff. Find a different doctor. He isn't the only ENT in town.

Today I went to a doctors office not knowing what to expect. I was immediately called back given information to review about me. Doctor and assistant came in immediately engaged me the patient. Then went further to explain diagnosis and show me the health concerns. Dr. Monfared is Magnificent Wanda Polite

I have mixed feelings about him. He was the third otologist I saw and the most compassionate when I met him in person.However, he suggested treatments I already tried and was defensive when I suggested tubes via email. His email exchanges demonstrated that he didn't listen to what I had to say. I know my own body and am not going to try treatments that don't work for me. I'm not going back.

I am very happy with DR monfarid He is really smart doctor .I had a cheleastoma .He did my surgery it was very good I even didn't feel the pain after the surgery .He is really kind and friendly doctor and I do recomended you all to visit the office of DR Ashkam MOnfard
