Dr. Atinuke Towobola Shoaga, MD

I was shocked to see that Dr. Shoaga was actually a pediatrician. My husband and I took my son to the ER at MGH and right away Dr. S suggested my son had cystic fibrosis or diabetes because he is a little skinny (40th percentile for weight). THis is the 2nd time he had been sick in three weeks and seemed a bit dehydrated from vomiting all day so we called the oncall ped in my sons drs office and they said there was a stomach bug going around and we should bring him in for IV fluids and zofran to stop the vomiting. After she suggested he had CF she then wanted to do a spinal tap to check for meningitis because he was non-responsive to her because he didn't like her. He was very responsive to me and the nurses so I didn't believe that meningitis was even an issue. Plus he only had the vomiting symptom of meningitis. I questioned the risk of doing a potentially unnecessary spinal tap on a three year old and she said it could introduce a more severe infection or even death. Mind you… she said all this in front of my 3 year who is not stupid. When he heard death....he started FREAKING out. I AM GOING TO DO ANYTHING I CAN TO MAKE SURE THIS DR DOES NOT PUT ANYONE IN THIS POSITION AGAIN. When I took my son to his pediatrician afterwards he was really upset that she even suggested that he had CF and most of all because she failed to check him out for strep throat after I told them of his croupy cough. HE TESTED POSITIVE FOR STREP! Thank god she is not my sons normal pediatrician.
