Following medical school, he completed residency training in neurological surgery at Medical University of South Carolina, where he earned recognition as Intern of the Year and distinguished himself throughout his residency.
During his neurosurgical training, Dr. Buchholz developed a strong focus on spinal disorders, particularly minimally invasive surgical approaches. His research and clinical work in this area led to multiple publications, national presentations, and academic honors. To further advance …his expertise, he completed a fellowship in complex spine surgery at University of Virginia, training under renowned spine surgeons Christopher Shaffrey and Justin Smith. During his fellowship, he also completed advanced AO Spine training and received a national award recognizing excellence in clinical research.
