Dr. Avram J. Smukler, MD

30 years old, saw dr smuckler, first it was 3x the price to see him than any other specialist in the area for 1/3 the quality. saw me for maximum 10 minutes, looked at none of my records sent to him prior, ordered a ton of tests, a few weeks went by no call back, after about a 1/2 dozen calls to his office with promises to have him or a nurse call back, the nurse said everythign was 'normal'. i asked normal based on what? did things i had go away? she said she didnt know she wasnt a doctor, she clearly never looked at anything. i then told her i was frustrated with the failure of communication, and she got angry with me, then I asked to speak to the front desk to get access to my medical records and she hung up on me. Dr seems like a decent person, bad communication, and bad approach and FAR too expensive. more of a business person than doctor it seems like. would recommend you go to miami. front desk people were great and tried. hopefully he doesnt hold my records hostage but after a… few weeks results are still not up on the portal.

Very mean

Dr Smukler is a wonderful and caring doctor that goes out of his way for his patients. He is on the way to perhaps saving my life as he diagnosed a deadly early cancer. I can't thank him enough and recommend him highly.

Dr Smukler went above and beyond the typical to help me through a health problem. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Smukler is extremely brusque with a terrible bedside manner. On several occasions I have had to re-schedule appts. and found it very difficult to do so because his staff is just awful about returning phone calls. In most cases 1 or 2 days pass before they get back to me. Additionally, Dr. Smukler has shouted me down and called me a liar when I told him how sick I was feeling. I am currently in the process of filing a complaint about him and will seek to have him removed from my treatment team.

Rating is required or I would NOT give him ONE star!!! I would NEVER recommend this physician to ANY cancer patients. He lacks Compassion, integrity and is unprofessional with patients and staff. He dislikes being questioned and pushes back with every inquiry about the Plan of care/treatment, prognosis. I am a Registered Nurse for 19 years and work well on a daily basis with doctors and I have NEVER met a MD who is arrogant, labels patients, judges their pain level based on what he says, verbally disrespects and mistreats patients, their families, and the staff at Jupiter MC can validate his behavior. Dr Smukler has cursed in front of a ICU Team indicating, "I'm not making a F***king dime on your brother". I was shocked as well as the Nurses in ICU. He recently denied making that statement. Now, he has threatened my brother that if I call him or his office, he will have an attorney contact me. I am NOT afraid of his threats!! MY brother DESERVES to be treated with respect, Compassion… from a caring professional. Dr Smukler has stressed him out and caused him to cry, lay in pain and never return a call and when he does, HE IS NOT Pleasant! My brother is dealing with this terrible disease, which under Dr Smukler's care will have my 50 year old brother dead in a month or two. I have attempted to bring my brother back to NY, where my colleagues and my organization would help support my family during this difficult time however, my brother chooses to die in a beautiful place, in Jupiter Fla.

The only thing worse than having cancer is having Dr. Smukler as your oncologist. His bedside manner is absolutely appalling. He is unable to answer any questions regarding prognosis. He did not even view the cat scan of my family members chest that was done 20 hours prior and when I asked him what stage her lung cancer was he told me they do not stage lung cancer. He never spoke to the actual patient regarding her condition and told us that as a family we need to discuss it with her, which again we had no information to relay regarding prognosis as he said he could not answer and it was the patients decision to precede with chemo or not. After the patient decided to precede with chemo and the first two days of chemo have been administered he then tells us she has stage 4 cancer and chemo should have never been administered. I have never encountered a doctor that does not go over the diagnosis or prognosis with the actual patient and leaves that responsibility up to the family. He is… suppose to be the expert in the field and guide us through this process which he did not. I would never recommend him. He doesn't even deserve 1 out of 5 stars. I rate him a 0.

I have a blood disease called lupus anticoagulant and APS. He missed diagnost me gave me the wrong medication. I wanted to have a family and became pregnant. because of the wrong medication, I got to 2 blood clots in my uterus had to deliver my baby at 20 weeks. she died and didn't make it. I was in the hospital for over a month. because infarct in my liver. I almost died, I had an antibody to blood thinners, and to the medication doctor smuckler gave me didnt work because I was misdiagnosed. which is why I almost died. I told him I black out a lot. he told me that I was depressed that I need to be put on anti depressants. it was because blood wasn't getting to my brain. he wasn't willing to do more tests on me. luckily I moved to arizona, I have a wonderful hematologist now, that even said the doctor smukler doesn't know what he's doing. I could sue him but I won't, because what goes around comes around. please do not see the doctor for hematology.

Dr. Smuckler has been a blessing for my wife and I. His knowledge and dedication to his patients most likely saved me from my cancer and though there is some more treatment we know that we have won the battle and I could not be in better and more caring hands.

Dr. Smukler is very professional, caring and intelligent. He is trustworthy and I highly recommend him.
