Dr. Barbara Ann Stevens, MD

LONG wait time, appointments are rushed. She has a very strange bed side manner and is very cold and rude. Went twice and ran away because she was rude to me in front of my daughter.

Very thorough doctor

I was very impressed with Doctor Stevens from the moment I interviewed her to be my daughter's pediatrician. She was very easy to talk to, knowledgable, kind, caring and engaged from day one! I was a first time mom, and she never made me feel stupid for asking any question. I was a little concerned at first about it being a single physician practice, but her staff and stand-in physicians take jsut as good care of my angel as she does! I love that she is alwyas learning or reading about the lastest concerns/developments in the field of pediatrics and she is just a genuinely sweet person. I have recommended her to anyone that asks! Oh! I never have a problem getting an appointment either. Even a last minute, same day appointment. The staff is great about working you in I never wait more than 15 mins tops to be seen. There is also a sick room to keep sick patients apart from those who are not ill.

All my children (1 toddler, 2 infants) have been patients of Dr. Stevens since day one. Couldn't ask for a better pediatrician for my kids!

Dr. Stevens has emotional problems. I am now convinced. In terms of her knowledge, I think she does know her stuff. However, her demeanor is the worst. She is snappy and very rough with children. There is something off with her.She is very harsh if you don't say exactly what she expects to hear and rough with my child even to take his clothes off. She is emotionally unstable.

I first chose to use Dr Stevens when I asked her why she started her own medical office and she responded by saying that she wanted to spend more time with her patients. I have been very pleased with the attention she has given to my child. But because she is on her own, she does not have the support as other medical offices. I think she is not everyone. Sometimes you do have to wait a little long to see her but she will also spend the time to address your concerns and give you lots of information.

She is fabulous and the staff treated my family with the utmost respect. I have had interactions with a variety of medical specialist and I have to say that she was intently interested in my concerns, handled our baby with nothing but gentleness and never spoke to us like we were the village idiots. I don't of any other pediatrician who inquires into the health of harried parents of a newborn like she did.

My experience with Dr. Stevens is so disapointing, she is so impatient with kids, so unprofessional, and very good at rushing you through to get to the next patient. She even injured my child who did not want to open his mouth for a stripe test, she pushed the Q-tip until he bled from his throat, without trying in any way to get him to open his mouth, she used an unecessary amount of force for such a simple test that we had at least dozen times by now.

Be very careful when choosing this pediatrician. My child had simple seasonal allergy. Barbara tried to prescribe several courses of antibiotics. Then she prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray which has steroids. Since my child did not have chronic sinusitis I told her that I would rather not use steroids. I asked her to recommend me an alternative/homeopathic medicine. She got upset and defensive. She even implied that she will report me to the child protective services for not complaining with her and putting my child into a dangerous situation. I bought a Pot Nose Bidet and use it every night. There is no need for antibiotics or steroids. It is in Barbara's financial interest to promote vendor's brands including antibiotics and nasal sprays. She follows modern American medicine practices and disregards anything else. She is very arrogant!

Dr. Stevens has been very involved in our infant's care. She takes a lot of time with my son each appointment, and thoroughly answers all of my questions--ridiculous or not. She promptly responds to after hours inquiries, and I have been able to obtain same day appointments whenever necessary. Dr. Stevens tend to air on the side of caution, which led us to visit one specialist for something that did not turn out to be a problem. However, that caution also led her to check and recheck my son's jaundice levels, which ended up requiring several hospitalizations. During that time, she was quite involved in his care, consistently followed up with us, and thoroughly explained the changes in his condition---even while she was on vacation. The attending pediatrician at VHC also told us that he had a high opinion of her. Overall we have been very pleased with Dr. Stevens as our son's pediatrician.
