Dr. Barry Donell Bender, MD

The WORST doctor I have ever been to! our experience was with our son when he was about 7 months old. He had eaten some yogurt and stated screaming and swelling so badly that he was having a hard time breathing so I wrapped him in cold wet towels and rushed him to the ER. It took bender an hour to finally come see us because he was in a staff meeting. thankfully my sons swelling went down but was now covered in hives from head to toe. when he finally graced us with his presence he said it couldn't be an allergic reaction because he had a slight temperature. What! All he would say when we would ask why he didn't think it was an allergic reaction was well I didn't seem him when he was swollen so I couldn't be that well you didn't get there for an hour! so he couldn't say what was wrong. since he wouldn't do anything to help I just wanted to leave my husband asked him why would all these things happen if it wasn't an allergic reaction and he would say again well it didn't see him like… that. my husband obviously got frustrated and told him he was answering anything and was not helpful. I will say he did raise his voice but by no means did he yell. I asked my husband to leave and I would be out in a minute with our son. Bender then said he had never been treated so bad and asked if my husband was abusive to me!!!! What!!!! NO I said and I want to leave now! The only positive thing he did was give me the dosage for Benadryl since we thought it was an allergic reaction. I didn't trust what he said so the next day I went to our regular doctor to confirm the dosage amount and at least he got that right. Since that time we have had a few other emergences and if he is the doctor on call we drive an hour away to be seen. Another experience not by my family but from friends are my friend broke his arm went in and Bender said it wasn't broken my friend insisted it was and demanded an x-ray it was broke.

I was treated in an ER. Even when I specifically asked, (since I was not familiar with it) he did not fully explain was my condition was. When I asked again, he said "I already told you!" in an angry voice. He said I should be admitted to a hospital, but didn't explain very well why. When he was out of the exam room, it took me two minutes of researching my condition on my smart phone to discover that it was very serious, and I should be admitted to a hospital. But at least he diagnosed it correctly.
