Dr. Bart L Clarke, MD

Dr. Clarke did nothing to help me and contradicted himself several times. I have Hypercalcemia and he was unable to give me a definitive diagnosis or offer any more help other than to wait even though I had 13 high calcium levels and several severe symptoms. Poor!!! I would not recommend him to anyone and cannot believe he is a doctor with Mayo Clinic.

Dr Clarke has very poor emotional intelligence. He does not know how and is unwilling to really listen to his patient and value his or her input or questions. His approach seems to be to try and scare the patient into accepting the drugs he is offering. He treats the patient as a know nothing (even if you have a Ph.D. and have thoroughly researched your condition and the typically prescribed meds for it). Lied to me not once but three times by stating "Fosamax has no side effects." When I expressed strong reservations about Fosamax, his response was..."If you don't want to take one of the Bisphosphonates, we're done here." When I asked about increasing exercise and activity for my newly diagnosed osteoporosis, he stated..."It won't do you any good, only the Fosamax will help." Same with calcium and other supplements like Vit K.. Dr Clarke: "Won't do anything. Fosmax is the only thing that will help." I would not recommend this guy for anybody.

I was referred to Dr. Clarke by my Endocrinologist here in St. Paul, MN. My medical situation is complicated with uncertain outcomes and this was my first visit to Mayo Clinic. Dr. Clarke treated me with dignity, respect, and took a great deal of time answering the many questions I had. He also spent a lot of time educating me in terms of what my prognosis could mean. I would highly recommend him to anyone with special endocrine needs. I want to thank him for putting me at ease and making me feel like I was his one and only patient at my visit.
