Dr. Basil Emeka Akpunonu, MD

Basil Akpunonu is the best doctor I have ever encounter. He listens to what I say and to what my body says. He asks me about things I did not think to mention. Without being pushy or discourteous in any way he has urged me to take care of myself. He quietly reasoned with me when I wanted to delay starting a medication I needed, and by starting in a timely way, the danger to my health was prevented from taking its toll. A routine exam in today's world is strictly schedule for a limited time period, but Dr. Akpunonu will take whatever time it takes to thoroughly investigate anything he sees that might need looking into. Once when a condition would benefited greatly by immediate treatment, he stayed late beyond the time he was scheduled to go home. He is a man with an excellent memory for details that has astounded me. I find him a most congenial personality but not that but his perception, knowledge and dedication to healing is what convinces me he is the most excellent… physician. He retains a slight accent which lend him a kind of distinguished presence that reminds me of a gentleman of the old colonial era; he is an aristocrat in knowledge but treats me as an equal sharing his concern for my health like a brother, even though I do not know him at all outside my office visits, and the fact I am embarrassingly ignorant about the basic facts of medicine and biology; I can easily believe from my experience in his explanations to me that he is a distinguished teacher at the college of medicine as I have been told. I give him the highest possible marks as a physician; and although I do not know him on a personal level at all outside my medical visits, I would rate him as highly as a human being on the basis of his empathy with my concerns, with his deep instinctive understandings of my fears and hopes for my treatment, and for knowing what I fail to understand before I can voice my thoughts. Everyone I encounter at the hospital in the various medical fields speaks of him in the highest terms as well; I am told many workers on the staff want him as their personal physician. I would not place as much weight on the words of others and a popular opinion if they did not confirm my own perception.

Dr is very good and knowlegable. The staff is basicly horrible.

staff are difficult, seem not to care at all, and do not communicate well. MD is great, but the staff bring the office down!

Dr. Akpunonu is one of the best doctors in Northwest Ohio. He is very knowledgeable and treats his patients very repectfully and with compassion. I will recommend him highly to any patient
