Dr. Basil Omar Burney, MD

My experience with Endocrine and Thyroid Center and Dr. Burney Basil has been awful from the start. As everyone knows, you need a referral to be seen here and the scheduling availability is extremely limited. I started treatment on April 29, 2025, and shortly after I had to reach out because the doctor prescribed the wrong quantity of my medication — and since I was about to travel, I would have run out. Then, after two months of emailing and calling the nurse multiple times, I finally got a reply simply telling me to stop my medication until my next scheduled appointment — with no further explanation and no lab work requested in the meantime. Concerned, I went to a general doctor who immediately ordered a full panel of labs. I brought these results to Dr. Basil, but he never properly reviewed them. Instead, he decided to start me on a new treatment for prediabetes, completely overlooking the fact that my thyroid was not under control and my vitamin D was critically low — something… another doctor later pointed out. A huge red flag, considering I had been on thyroid medication for over 12 years without improvement in symptoms, and supplementing vitamin D for more than a year without results. As for the prediabetes treatment, I am still on it, but the issues continue: prescriptions are not sent on time, pharmacies get no response, and I have even received messages from the pharmacy asking me to contact the office myself because they cannot get through. Right now, I have been waiting more than two days for a prescription, despite sending emails and making calls that go unanswered. The lack of communication and follow-up is unacceptable, and the failure to properly review labs is dangerous. This clinic is a complete disaster: they don’t respond, they don’t follow up, and they put patients’ health at risk.

I have been a patient of Dr. Burney since he first opened his office in the Jackson (Hospital) Clinic. He is very knowledgeable and competent in his practice and I feel confident in his decisions and treatment recommendations. Throughout the course of my care with him, he has always presented as compassionate, understanding, and committed. No matter how busy he was, I never felt rushed during our appointments. He always readily answered questions, with as thorough an explanation as needed. Dr. Burney exemplifies all the qualities one looks for in a physician and I wholeheartedly recommend him.- H.Spangler

Having Graves’ disease and other health issues Dr. Burney is the most understanding and compassionate Doctor. From the first visit my husband and I felt at ease with him taking care of these serious issues. He is very compassion about his patients and their needs to live the best quality of life possible. He truly is THE BEST OF THE BEST!

Dr. Burney listens very well to any and all concerns and preferences you have. He is very open to ideas, and treats each patient as their own person. He is very understanding of the fact that not all diabetics are the same. However, since enlarging his office and adding on another specialist his office staff's competence has fallen . The wait time went from 15 minute to over an hour. The staff went from being extremely prompt and nice to being extremely slow, very unfriendly and unprofessional. They even managed to lost my paperwork for the DMV twice.

He is one of the best doctors I have. I wish all had his temperament, calmness and attitude toward their patients as he does. He is the best of the best in my opinion.

Dr Burney has been my diabetic doctor for the last 3 years. He has me on pump and my A1C is great. He is very respectful, listens to my concerns and has great bed side manner.

Dr. Burney is an exceptional Endocrinologist. He is very smart with spot-on diagnoses. He cares for his patients, gives the patient as much time the patient needs, and follows- up to see how the patient is. I recommend him to everyone seeking an Endo in Alabama.
