Dr. Bela S Shah, MD

Simply Amazing I've been seeing Dr. Shah for over a year now. She has impacted my life in the best way! She's always been very attentive to my needs. Anytime a medication hasn't worked she's open to trying another medicine in order to improve my well being. She listens to everything I tell her, and she gives me tools that can work in my favor beyond medication. Which is huge! She remembers my story and my struggles each time I see her. Regardless if it's 1x a month or 1x every 3 months. I'd be lying if I said Dr. Shah hasn't changed my life for the better. She's always been in my corner, and proves to me regularly that all of this is worth fighting for. Even when you don't believe it yourself. Dr. Shah was treating me for major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and PTSD. She was well aware of my history of suicidal ideation (one attempt), and of hospitalizations for these ideations. I had been seeing her for about a year and a half when I had a crisis. In early 2021 my symptoms had gotten so bad and so overwhelming that I was thinking about suicide constantly just to get some relief, so I checked myself back into an inpatient psychiatric hospital. I was there for several weeks. I left phone numbers for Dr. Shah and for my therapist with my fiance, so he could let them know where I was. He easily informed my therapist, and left a message with Dr. Shah's office. When I got out I realized that I'd missed an appointment with Dr. Shah. I called her office to explain what happened and schedule another. When I saw her next she told me that she was letting me go as a patient because of that missed appointment. This was the first and only time I had ever missed an… appointment with her, and I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL WANTING TO KILL MYSELF. As a psychiatrist you'd think she would understand that people in that situation are not exactly thinking clearly, and certainly cancelling appointments (or even remembering when they're supposed to be when you don't have access to your cell phone) is not high in the priority list. At the time it was honestly devastating. It's hard enough being in a crisis like that (I was still in an intensive outpatient rehab program) without the added stress of finding a new psychiatrist. And she forced me to do so knowing I'd been recently suicidal. After having a couple years to reflect on this, reading some other reviews, and thankfully getting to a much better place in my life in spite of her; I have to say I don't believe this woman should be allowed to work with vulnerable people.

Dr. Bela Shah is the worst doctor I have ever encountered. I see other reviews about her not being very friendly or professional. Those things might be true but that’s not why I stopped seeing Dr. Shah. Dr. Shah refused to see me in a time of great need. After what I can only explain as a miscommunication about me not following her professional advice (I was) she sent letters to my other health care providers, essentially warning them about me. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and I’m lucky I made it out of that difficult time alive, especially considering my psychiatrist not only abandoned me but compromised my relationships with my other doctors during a mental and physical health crisis. Years later I continue to warn others against her. Please, please, please avoid her at all costs.

Super great doctor. Can't say enough good things. She's very warm and compassionate, listens attentively, very easy to talk to, and smart in her medical expertise. I went into my initial appointment very skeptical because of the many terrible reviews of her on Healthgrades.com. I found none of those to be true in my experience. It's likely that the people that had a great experience don't take the time to write reviews, and those that didn't get exactly what they wanted take their anger out in the form of negative reviews.

She took less than 5 minutes to ellaborate her diagnosis, that of course, was wrong. How can you be a psychiatrist if you don't wat to listen and understand your patients. Got the wrong medicines prescribed and I was sleepy and non-functional all the time, when I told her that she said that this medicine was keeping me controlled, so being non-funtional for her means under control. I would never recommend her to anybody.
