Dr. Ben Zane Cohen, MD

If you're looking for a doctor to hold your hand and become your best friend, Dr. Cohen is not your guy. If you're looking for the best retinal surgeon in the northeast, Dr. Cohen is your guy. I chose the latter and I'm grateful every day for my eyesight. I have had multiple surgeries on both eyes. I will confirm other reviews that he is available 24/7. Cannot imagine being an emergent surgeon.

Yes, wait times can be long and staff are sometimes exhausted. Doctor takes insurance and treats a tremendous number of people and is an absolute expert! The staff work really long hours and are sometimes abused by self righteous/ rude patients. Post surgical appointments and emergencies happen everyday. Be thankful you are not the person being rushed in ahead of others. Many doctors this caliber do not take insurance. Do you want a new best friend and fancy waiting room or do you want your eye site?????

As we waited for our appointment which was at 12:30, people walked in and where taking straight away. Nasty office staff as well as medical staff. I posted my frustration on their website and as my son was sitting in the chair with Dr. Cohen, they read my review and 3 medical staff brought my review to Dr. Cohen’s attention and they found it amusing that I referred their personalities as “wet paper towel” Dr Cohen said that being a “retinal specialist” takes time and as far as the description of the staff, his reply was correct!!! I’m so glad that they found a poor review of the office & medical staff amusing. They’ll never see our family again.

If I were only rating Dr Cohen, it would be five stars, but the long waits and awful atmosphere in the office drags it down

I believe Dr's come in all shapes and sizes. Their social, clinical, personal, medical, technical abilities all vary but at the end of the day you are left with anything from a poor to a great outcome and the overall experience feels the same way. I was left with the feeling that Dr. Cohen is good at what he does but with an experience that left me feeling as though he was less than fulfilling. I would not recommend anyone go to this office or see Dr. Cohen. You get the feeling that he is entitled because he has been a new York Dr. for too long

Dr. Cohen has been my doctor for the past 8 1/2 years. Yes I've waited in his office for hours at times, but I wouldn't trust anyone else with my eye. He is professional, respectful and truly cares for his patients. I've called him at all hours day and night and he's always answered me. He has come in on off hours to see me and I believe would do this for any of his patients. If I need him to spend time with me during my visit, he sits there and listens to my concerns. I'm never rushed.

After reading all these glowing reviews, it occurred to me that if all you sheep left because your time is just as important as Emperor Cohen's time, maybe he would realize he would have to change his behavior- judging by the packed waiting room, all this guy cares about( like most doctors) is the almighty dollar- he is a disgrace to the medical profession-

He is an extremely dedicated doctor. He opened his office at 6PM Saturday night of a 4 day holiday weekend and again 9AM on Sunday because of me. I had a retina detachment and the attention and care he gave me was nothing short of spectacular. I had the successful surgery to re-attach the retina a few days later and have had the same experience through the post op time. The wait in his office for regular visits may be long but it is because many have discovered there is no one better to see. Incidentally post op patients are given priority. His staff is as good as he is.
