Dr. Benjamin David Brody, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Brody for over a year, and am grateful to have found such an excellent provider. He is professional - always punctual and responsive to communication outside of our sessions. He is thorough, kind, and takes the time to listen to my concerns and issues every session, creating a dynamic patient-provider relationship. Dr. Brody is an extraordinarily compassionate provider and I always feel understood and hopeful at the end of our sessions. I have recommended him to fellow colleagues and friends, and will continue to do so!

My experience with Dr Brody was on his inpatient unit. I found him to be extremely condescending and disregarded my feelings. Conversely he told me how I was feeling. What I was thinking. It made things very difficult for me as is being inpatient there is very little voice to be heard as a psych patient-he made it so much worse by being so blatantly disrespectful. During my time there I heard from many other patients saying they felt he was mistreating them. It’s sad that he is in charge of the nations top psych wards

I was admitted in Dr. Brody’s unit. He was not my treating physician, however three weeks into my stay when I was intended to leave the following day, Dr. Brody took a second opinion. His manner was offensive and condescending, seemingly without regard of my experience and feelings. He and my current doctor on the unit cornered me, intimidated me and attempted to convince me to adhere to a diagnosis and treatment plan that was unfounded and bizarre. Although two psychiatrists who have known me for years completely disagreed with their theories, Dr. Brody stuck by his diagnosis without acknowledging the facts at hand and ignoring the patient. Eventually I sought my rights as a patient to request a 72 hour period and to be discharged or go to court. Obviously, with home psychiatrists disagreeing with Dr. Brody’s diagnosis they know they would never win. I was then discharged after a month of stay. Dr. Brody’s behavior was extremely insulting and the way he conducted himself was… egregious, in terms of both actual medical care and empathy, or lack of. The lawyer who I spoke to on the phone when discussing my request to be discharged called Dr. Brody so difficult to overcome and someone who preys on people without support. Fellow patients who I talked to resonated with my feelings of Dr. Brody’s inability to properly treat the patients in all aspects.

disheartening that a man like this in charge. A terrible doctor with no genuine interest in helping people. Prefers to drug you up instead actually getting to know his patients. He dosent even deserve the one star.

Dr. Brody is empathetic and smart. He breaks down problems into solvable pieces and is very re-assuring

He seems like a caring and well-trained doctor. But I had a few encounters with him while being held against my will in his unit, and they were all bad. First, at a "community meeting" bringing together staff and patients, I raised my concern over the repeated trampling of my rights as a hospital patient, basically creating dozens of witnesses to my claim against the hospital. Dr. Brody, rather than recognizing the legal jeopardy his unit faced or the opportunity I was handing him to address the concerns, changed the subject, encouraging other patients to share negative feedback about me, which was enormously inappropriate. When I approached him against the meeting, politely, to seek a followup conversation, he backed away as if I were threatening him. Later, he "assessed" me for a court hearing. He spent all of 3-5 minutes, barely looked up from his sheet, and rubber-stamped another doctor's ill-formed diagnosis. I was shocked to see how casually he handled an official… assessment for a judge. In subsequent meetings, he worked with other doctors to manipulate me into having repeated meetings with my family and fiancee, discussing deeply personal matters, with doctors and social workers present, despite my desire to not include my family or fiancee in my treatment. He also again spurned an offer I made to discuss my concerns with treatment with the hospital to spare it public scrutiny, saying my attempt to reach the hospital's PR department was a "distraction" rather than recognizing it as a favor.
