Dr. Benjamin Ernest Gaines, MD

I was extremely disappointed with my recent prenatal visit with Dr. Gaines. From the start, he was unprofessional and dismissive. His first comment to me was, “Was this an accident? Was it an oopsies?” This was an incredibly disrespectful way to address a planned pregnancy. When discussing testing options, I explained that I had made an informed decision not to pursue additional testing. Instead of respecting my choice, he pressured me and incorrectly told me that “the blood test is 100% accurate.” That is simply not true. During the Doppler exam, he never communicated my baby’s heartbeat or reassured me. When he was done, he flipped the towel over my belly and told me to “wipe yourself off,” then left the room abruptly without asking if I had questions or providing any closure. I left the appointment feeling disrespected, dismissed, and shaken. Patients deserve to be treated with compassion, accurate information, and professionalism. Sadly, this visit was the opposite. I filed a… complaint with Avera, but they are unlikely to do anything about it. He of course denied any wrongdoing and they really won't be doing anything about it because he's the only seasoned OBG/YN they have. I will be looking elsewhere for future appointments.

When I would try to talk he was constantly interrupting me and telling me to stop interrupting him. Apparently he likes to hear himself speak more than he likes to hear what his patients have to say about their medical problems. And when I asked for a specific test that I thought would help me he accused me of demanding it & said he would choose what test would be best for me. He is very condescending. I also will be finding someone else for my Gynecology needs.

He walked into my appt an hour late, started yelling at me for wasting his time for not following thru with my appts . Since I went to every appt that was scheduled for me I asked what he was talking about and he refused to give specifics, just kept on about wasting his very valuable time . No one can tell me what appts I missed but I have never been so belittled in my life . Walked out and will go elsewhere for treatment
