Dr Benjamin Mena is truly focused on me while he listens and cares whenever I see him. His high integrity and dedication to supporting each patient individually are a testament to him as a human being who is making a positive difference on the planet with one person at a time. Dr Mena treats me with respect, professionalism, humor and patience. Professional in that he assumes you are intelligent and that sharing your testing results is not only important to him but to you as the patient. MDVIP was a very good move on my part.

Dr Mena is a GREAT doctor.. No complaints there. His staff sucks! Can’t run a good practice without a good support group. Joining MDVIP only improved the beauty of the office, not the competence of his staff.

Dr. Men's and his staff are very personable. Dr. Mena takes time to find out what is going on with me. He is thorough in his examination. I don't feel like Dr. Mena is rushing off to the next patient when he is with me. He is attentive.

Same old problems continue. After a stay at Tampa General Hospital due to heart problems my Heart Doctor changed several of my medicines. I was given a two week supply upon leaving the Hospital and told to see my PCP asap and have them get with Express Scripts to continue sending the new Medicines on a regular basis. I met with Kimberly who is now in charge of ordering new meds and ongoing refills and sat with her for 30 minutes discussing and updating all my medicines, And btw I found out later it was still incorrect ? To be sure, I asked her several times to first of all order my new medicines from Express Scripts and she said that she had already done it. After my two week supply from Tampa General had run out I called and asked if she had in fact ordered my new Meds and she assured me she had. I waited another week hoping they would arrive but NOTHING. After waiting ample time for them to arrive I called express Scripts and asked them when I could expect my new meds and was told… they had not received any request from Dr. Menas office However the lady at Express Scripts said she would fax a request to Dr. Menas office and that should take care of it. It has now been six weeks I have been without my new Meds. I paid Kimberly a visit today just to find out what the problem was and after the usual song and dance about how Dr. Mena has done every thing properly and the problem HAS TO BE ON THE EXPRESS SCRIPT End, She got on the phone to Express Scripts and was told that my new Meds would be shipped out in another three working days via U.S. Postal Service which to me means it will be yet another week or more before I will receive them which makes a total of 8 weeks without my new Meds and that is if everything has been done right this time ? I realize that everybody has a job to do but it seems that when their jobs can be a life or death factor in another humans life that they would fine a way to do that job and do it efficiently. Dr. Mena has only one telephone line into his office and essentially one person to answer that line unless she is on break or otherwise away then you take pot luck at whoever picks up the phone. In other words it is nearly impossible to contact the office and talk person to person because that one line is most always busy. OH, Now would be a good time to mention that his office staff prefers us to contact them by computer in other words you are prevented actually talking to another human being and trying to get straight information. There is no way I can say or prove where the problem lies but I always seem to get the same story and each side tells me the problem is on the other end. Dr. Mena seems to be a good Doctor but I think he is trying to run a big city operation with a small town staff.

I have been with Dr Mena since he opened his practice in Tpa. I have all the faith in the world in ,his knowledge he is kind, and patient. His office staff is very courteous also.i do think he needs more help since taking on more patients.

Be prepared to wait more than hour!!! And they WILL not let you know they are running behind

Dr. Mena himself is a great medical person however he needs a much better supporting staff and he needs to know how to direct his staff. He is aware of the fact that several of his staff is totally inept at doing what is required. When he is made aware of a problem he will only tell that staff member to "FIX IT" then turns a walks away. Some of his staff is young and untrained and have no idea what to do when a problem arises and have no one else to turn to for advice so the problem is just swept under the nearest carpet and forgotten until sometime later and the $h!t hits the fan. He needs to do some serious house cleaning and bring in intelligent and trained people who know what to do and are not afraid to tackle a problem and make sure the job is done right. His staff could cause his downfall if not taken care of and soon. It would be a shame to lose such a good Doctor and I think he prefers to stay and work in this area.

Outstanding physician. Very caring, very thorough. We need more like him.

Dr. Mena is an excellent physician, however, his back office staff is completely incompetent. There is a clear lack of communication between his "nurse" (who I don't think is even a medical assistant) and the physician. The after-hours answering service is not helpful, rude, obviously following a script, and serves as a gatekeeper between the patient (read: CUSTOMER) and physician. They flat out refused to put me in touch with the physician on a Friday to clarify a medication prescription change that had been requested with this office's staff since the preceding Wednesday; even the pharmacy was unable to get clarification. The back office staff is clearly a major problem with what could potentially otherwise be an excellent medical practice. In medicine, communication is key, as it can mean life or death.
