Dr Benjamin Lowell Metzger

My husband is a patient of Dr Metzger, and although he likes the doctor , dealing with support staff is aggravating. I work for a doctor who is also on staff Lenox Hill as well as Hospital for special Surgery and never would I condescend to our patients. When we ask a question we get the feeling that they are not even trying to be helpful. Unfortunately we will be looking for another medical doctor and we will not be referring patients either.

He is like an old fashioned doctor.He is humble and he kept on asking me if there anymore questions I wanted to ask. He really listened and took his time. He is so wonderful

Dr. Metzger is a terrific doctor and an equally great guy. I've been seeing him for years. I never feel rushed. He listens well. He is knowledgeable in a wide swath of the medical field. He is extremely responsive and has a calming manner. Top shelf!

Dr Metzger was recommended by my orthopedist. It was very difficult to make a somewhat timely appointment with him. Northwell has a call center in Florida that makes appointments for Dr Metzger, and unless you ask to speak with dr Metzger directly and he calls you, typically you cannot get an appointment within a month. I have been virtually unable to use him for a sick visit within the last eighteen months. Every appointment takes several calls, and as indicated above dr metzger needs to intervene (patient needs to make up an emergency to speak with him) and slot you in himself for an appointment. I needed a vaccine update within a certain period and told his office so, nonetheless the vaccine was a month late. The condition of his mid-town office is unacceptable, with a bathroom in the hallway that is locked and shared with other offices on the floor. In other words to give a urine specimen you need to go into the hallway with the bathroom key. Quite candidly his courtesy… cannot compensate for the lack of administrative capacity and office situation.

I recently met with Dr. Metzger. He's a very nice, likeable guy. I get the impression he's a knowledgeable, solid doctor; however, I do have a gripe. I waited about an hour to be seen even though I was, I believe, the first patient of the day. There were some issues determining my insurance/eligibility. The process was unduly slow and I found the receptionist generally uncommunicative and unhelpful. In conclusion, I like the doc but the recommendation is qualified as a result of seemingly sub-par front-desk operations (at least on my visit).

Doctor Metzger was thoughful and caring. I felt like he really listened to what I had to stay and helped me with my problem. I'll be coming back!

I absolutely hate going to the doctor. I only went because I needed to get my bloodwork done. However, with Dr. Metzger, I would go see him everyday if I could. He is so polite, he seems to genuinely care about your problems, and give you solutions on how to fix them (and not by just writing a prescription). He even took my blood himself! I've never known a doctor to do that him/herself. He also took the time to look up the name of an herbal supplement that I could take since I try to avoid taking any kind of prescriptions. I found my GP in NY!
