Dr. Benjamin Roemer, MD

Dr. Roemer is an amazing physician. He is impeccable and his staff is the same.

Dr. Roemer is a good listener therefore showing empathy for the patient, in this case, my friend. His bedside manner is very caring and gives the patient confidence. His approach of detecting the problem through tests is very thorough. However, the staff in the emergency room lacks that same empathy. My friend suffered sudden severe pain, the monitor peeped, heart rate went up. I tried to find a nurse to help. Another patient, shouting obsenities, tied up 6 - six - nurses or helpers at that same time. This went on for quite some time. After another inquiry for help (my friend was writhing in pain) was answered by: we have an emergency here, namely the obsene patient. I answered that we too had an emergency of sorts, namely extreme pain. Nothing happened. Finally, after what seemed to be considerable time, a nurse came in and administered a morphine injection. My friends pain eased for a while, only to return after about 10 min. Same scenario: screeming patient, no time for my friend… for a while. About 10 minutes after the second morphine injection a huge security guard told me the nurses had complaint that I bopped in and out of the room "making them nervous" and if I did not stop this behaviour he had to ask me to leave. Eventhough I did not respond to his accusations he kept berating me in front of the patient. My friend, after all his pain, became very aggravated and wanted to change hospitals. At that point I left and told my friend to please calm down and I would see him in the morning. I am appalled by this treatment. I felt like a common criminal. I hope Dr. Roemer will see this account. Monday I will try to find some answers to why this kind of behaviour of security guard is possible.

Fainted in restaurant. Driven to NW Emergency Room. Walked in without a problem. Told Triage I had no history of Heart problems and had had a Calcium Cardiac MRI Test 5 months before showing my heart was fine. Dr. Roemer still wanyed to do an EKG which was done by a nurse, not Dr, Roemer. EKG (billed as ECG) done by nurse for $55. Bill for Dr. Roemer's 2 minutes in room with me to read tape and pronounce my heart fine was $535. That comes to $16,050 per hour. Called when bill arrived explaining I don't have insurance requesting a discount for immediate cash payment. No dice. Received one more bill and then a letter from a collection agency demanding 150% of bill or they would report me to the credit bureau and then sue me. After 5 minutes of abuse from collection supervisor they offered to accept 111% of bill if I paid immediately over phone by credit card. Paid trying to save my credit and avoid being sued. I will pay off the credit card at 21% when I can. But at least I know… what I knew walking into the ER that day: my heart is fine. By the way, turns out I was dehydrated from lingering walking pneumonia. Total Hospital bill, apart from Dr. Roemer's bill, for 6 hours in the ER and 11 hours in NW hospital for "Observation" came to another $14,900. NOTE: Dr. Roemer is NOT AN EMPLOYEE of NW Hospital. The doc's corporation, NW Emergency Room Physicians has a contract with the hospital to provide services. I wonder how much of that $16,050 per hour goes to the hospital? It is my understanding that the other doctors there are also not employees, but private corporate entities working in a similar manner. Hearing doctors whine about not being paid enough now insults my intelligence and makes my stomach turn every time I hear it.

Falsified medical records to get into my insurance money. The group of them pretended I was about to die - all stats were normal. Recent cardiologist proved their pretenses untrue. They stated it did not matter because I had health insurance - leaving me stuck with $1000 co-pays instead of the $45 urgent care visit. $9000 later stated the same as I told them my primary care physician stated - "just skinny"
