Dr. Benson Pin-Sheng Yang, MD

I have unfortunately seen many neurosurgeons. This man laughed in my face when I told him about a previous surgery that had complications and disabled me for life. I have no words for this type of unprofessional behavior.

Fantastic surgeon, great bedside manner.

Honest surgeon. Told me surgery would not help me.

After years of different treatments I ended up going to this guy for possible back surgery back in 2009. He explained a new procedure that only required 1 rod and 2 screws as opposed to the old spine fusion surgery. I reluctantly agreed to have this surgery done. He did say I would still have 30-40% pain which I could have dealt with. However, my back problems only got worse and not better. The only time I saw him was a few hours after the surgery....then he disappeared. I was in the hospital for 3 days and he never came to check on me. I was told he had to go to a conference. A few months later, I was still experiencing severe pain and no one could tell me why. I was later diagnosed with fybromyalgia, which I didn't have before this surgery. Part of this surgery consisted of a rod being inserted underneath my tailbone. I can only assume it damaged my nerves somehow. But that's not the biggest issue. I found out a few years later that apparently I also had a small intestine surgery… during this back surgery that I was never told about. It was hidden and never put in my file. That explains why I didn't see him while I was in the hospital. Having a small intestine problem causes lifelong problems I now have that I never had before. And to never be told that this occurred is even worse. The entire surgery was a total failure! Instead of dealing with less pain, I now have to live with constant chronic pain all the time and be on medication to control it. Other doctors have said this surgery did me more harm than good. And whoever did this, did a poor job. He not only caused me more problems, he didn't have the decency to tell me there was a problem during my surgery and chose to cover his own butt instead. I wouldn't take my dog to this man after what he did to me! What kind of doctor hides things from you? That's not right and now I have to live with his mistakes.

I went to the ER this summer and was diagnosed on the spot with a brain tumor that was causing a hydrocephalus, I was lucky to get Dr Yang. He is to the point, explains things well, is full of confidence but not a bit arrogant. Tells like it is and has a plan. I'm a nurse and most specialty surgeons do not have a good bedside manner. He does and knows his stuff too. Got good reports on him from the ICU nurses too. He saved my life.

Seems to be concerned about payment which prompts his diagnoses

I was happy with my experience with this doctor. He accurately diagnosed my condition. Sadly, he doesn't treat my condition & my HMO has made me deal with an absolutely terrible neurologist ( for the record, I was NOT referred to him by Dr. Yang). If I were still with Dr. Yang, I would be a happy patient. His bedside manner was good ( most specialists I've dealt with are arrogant but he absolutely was not, not at all), I felt he knew what he was talking about and I feel I would have been in very capable hands, receiving good care, so, in short, I would highly recommend this doctor to anyone....

Dr. Yang is a fantastic doctor I had three surgeries on my lower spine and needed a forth this one was going to be a fusion. The three previous to the fusion was done by another surgeon and that other surgeon wanted to cut me open from the front and back so I decided to get another opinion. Thats when I found Dr. Yang he does all the new techniques, I was so pleased that at a young age I have a small scar on my back and a small scar by the tailbone were the rod was placed through. I recovered quicker by doing the more advanced procedure than I did by having microdiskectomies. Dr. Yang is amazing he also is one of those doctors that wont do surgery unless it is absolutely necessary and will tell you straight forward how things will go.

I had minimally invasive back surgery with Dr Yang and I left the hospital the same day. Not only did my horrible leg pain go away immediately, I didn't even feel like I had surgery!
