Dr. Beth Royston, MD

I've been seeing Dr. Royston for several years, but typically only need to visit the office for an annual check-in/physical. Similar to another review on the site, I also feel that Dr. Royston is only concerned with how many patients she can fit into her limited daily office hours. She is quite cold, condescending and does not take sufficient time to know her patient or their concerns. In all the years I have been with her, it is very rare that she spends more than 5 minutes in the room. It is clearly my fault for staying with her but I also left Chicago for a few years and also typically go directly to specialists when I require them. She works very limited hours and has no answering service, meaning she is not on call and completely off the grid when she is not physically in the office. Without consideration for circumstance or side effects, she demands to see you for an examination before re-writing a prescription. That includes not even writing a partial script/maintenance… level to get you to the appointment date. This has caused me to run out of medication prior to the appointment and has caused regression of progress and introduced side effects. Meanwhile, these visits are typically 3-5 minute discussions and she is out the door. I do not see her as a confident practitioner and nor does she have anything I would describe as a bed-side manner. Nothing about her profile or performance lead me to believe she is patient focused or appropriately supporting me as her patient. I would recommend you go elsewhere, as after a recent frustration... I will be doing so as well. Northwestern can do much, much better.

Dr. Royston shouted at me during an appointment for asking her about a medical issue I already told her nurse during intake I wanted to discuss. Literally cut me off with her hand and yelled "No!" I've never been treated in such an unprofessional manner by a doctor. I switched doctors after that!

On time, courteous and knowledgable. Awesome

I have been seeing Dr. Royston for many years. She is excellent in diagnosing and treating any problems. She is well read and up-to-date on medications as well as treatment options. I will definitely stay with her.

This doctor literally cut me off mid-sentence to say that since I was late for my appt (never mind how long I've waited for her previously) that she couldn't even HEAR about one of the reasons I went to see her. Then she walked out of the room, leaving me with my mouth open in shock. The time before she told me I needed to eat more protein for a sinus problem, without having any idea how much I currently eat, didn't explain why, and when I asked for a reference of how much I should be eating she had no idea, did not have any information to give me, or a book or website reference. She is rude, doesn't provide information, and flat out dismissed me from my appointment before I could even finish telling her why I was there, so now I still have the problem and have to start from square one to fix it. Literally the worse doctor experience I have ever had.
