Bethel Woldu, MD, MPH

Bethel Woldu, MD, MPH, is a cardiologist and clinician-researcher with the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute and serves as a dedicated inpatient cardiologist for patients admitted to MedStar Good Samaritan and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Woldu provides comprehensive cardiac care for patients from their time of admission through their time of discharge from the hospital. In addition to inpatient cardiac care, echocardiography is another key clinical focus of Dr. Woldu.

Growing up in Eritrea, East Africa, she gained an early understanding of the need for research and evidence-based healthcare practices, along with a passion for contributing positively to their advancement. Her research interests are focused on cardiovascular diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and understanding the role of inflammation in cardiovascular diseases and heart failure including in HIV infection. She is a former HHMI-NIH scholar and a Fogarty Global Health fellow. During fellowship, Dr. Woldu …received an MPH in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Her personal philosophy of care in patients is to "meet patients where they are," treating each patient holistically while maintaining focus on the steps that can be taken to optimize overall health and meet patients' and their family needs to improve quality of life.
