Dr. Beverly J Matthews, PsyD

On December 17, 2025, I had my initial consultation with Dr. Mathews. Having previously sought guidance from various psychiatrists and counselors, I was particularly impressed by her ability to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Her genuine warmth and compassion were evident in her interactions. Furthermore, her extensive knowledge in her field was evident in her expertise. Her office was designed to be inviting and conducive to relaxation, making me feel at ease. My second appointment, scheduled for December 18, 2025, involved a series of tests that lasted several hours. While I typically experience anxiety and anticipation before such appointments, I found that time seemed to pass quickly during this session. Despite the recent nature of our interactions and the limited number of appointments we have had, Dr. Mathews has instilled a sense of safety and comfort in me, enabling me to express my emotions more freely, which is a process that usually takes considerable time… for me to undertake. I would absolutely recommend her over and over again. It’s easy to get a dr, but very hard to get one like her, who puts patients first.

It took me years to decide to do this after how Dr. Matthews treated me, but if it can spare someone else the anguish then it's worth being brutally honest. Do not see this woman. She acts like what the videos online about "vulnerable narcissists" describe: she will charm you, earn your trust, and before long start leaning on YOU about other patients. In the meantime, she is secretly writing bad things about you in your medical records, that may affect how other medical professionals treat you for years to come. This woman acted supportive about the abuse at home, never once communicating to me that she thought I was looking for drugs (I wasn't - I was suicidal and desperately needed support) and yet writing this in my notes like I'd never see them. I had to order the records to see for myself. She also encouraged me to call her the next time I had a panic attack, on her personal line. When I did, she was a total ***** to me, taking out some other patients' lack of timely payment out… on me and saying "I AM going to expect you to pay...," then screaming that she was in traffic and didn't have time for this, and hung up. Later, I got a condescending letter saying to please continue to work on MY mood! Just be careful. This woman acts kind (she even gave me an unexpected, very nice gift for example) but it's because there is some extreme darkness behind the scenes. This all happened after she diagnosed me as autistic, by the way, bringing a new level of abuse into the dynamic. Be warned, and use discretion. I hope this woman either got or gets what she deserves for preying on people while they're down.

My wife and I have been in several time. She missed several large issues including alcohol abuse. During marriage counseling, she would not hear any issues including children. She split the two of up and recommended other therapist in the group-my spouse never found a therapist she trusted & stopped going. Alcohol abuse continued, hurting the family. 16 months later we are both seeing other therapist & will return to marriage counseling-NOT with Beverly. DO NOT SEE HER! In all the years that I have surfed through counselors/psychologist to find "the right fit for me was always a struggle and sometimes more frustrating than my own issues. Finding Dr. Mathews was literally a lifesaver, she has helped me in the last two years morethen all the years combined of all the other doctors put together! Her passion and desire to help people is exactly what I was looking for. Along with her brutal honesty, LOL. She is a complete package as far as I'm concerned anyone is in the field at helping people to take notes from this woman.
